Help with my very first car

Stay the f away from Peugeot choose something like a Nissan Ford Toyota Golf where parts original and aftermarket are in abundance.
And hijacking should be the last of your worries.
Look at Ford Figo, Nissan Micra, Toyota Yaris.

What about American cars? Ford, Chevrolet? Are they any good? How about Nissan since its Japanese, is it any good?

My dad has the Chev cruise sedan even though he is not much of a maintainer.
Nissan cars are good, solid and strong like a Micra.

You also also check out Mazda 2/3 depending on your size needs and i currently Mazda CX-5 which we are loving as it is the Wife's daily.

As @WaxLyrical said look Ford Figo, Nissan Micra, Toyota Yaris.
Just make sure that you test drive all these cars to get the feel of them and that you can live with them for a few years.

I had a Cruze and Spark, only issue was parts started getting expensive.

From the recommendations I have received I have narrowed it down to 3 or 4. Nissan, Ford, Toyota but I am still skeptical about Ford since they moved out of SA a few years ago but what about their parts and repairs? Expensive much?

What do you think about Aveo?

I don't think it was Ford that moved out of South Africa. Maybe you referring to General Motors?

Something Korean or Japanese designed. Without turbo, or if it has a turbo always allow it to spin down before switching off.

If you have the time to watch videos before buying look for Joe Cadogan on YT, the hardest hitting motor journalist pulling no punches. Australian based but he also talks about how global company culture rubs off on local dealerships. In that way AUS and SA would be similar.

Thank you so much for that information. I suppose I'm going to add Mazda to my shortlist. What are your thoughts on Mazda and Nissan?

You should specify the older pugs that go for 40-50k now should be avoided. The newer 2013+ models are cheap to maintain and parts aint hard to find. The parts are generally cheaper than the i10/i20's too, body panels far cheaper. Warranty on newer pugs are better than Hondnaais too. (they will readily replace stuff without hassle that hyundai will just tell you to go fck yourself)

A friend had one, it was okay, nothing really special a step up from the Spark but below the Sonic and Cruze.

Renault has a deal with Nissan and their engines are renault based, would give a second thought to buy one.

Peugeot 108 as its just an Toyota Aygo wearing a funny hat, that would make it less of a hijacking target.

otherwise, Brio, if you don't mind the looks ;)

or a new Atos
or wait a bit till the new i10 is coming to SA, old grand i10s will be dirt cheap.

I know relatively little about cars. I enjoy JC's videos because he has a real way with words and can be very entertaining. From what I remember Mazda is OK, Nissan doesn't get too bad a rap and certainly nothing like the 'Three-pronged suppository', Audi with their 'shittronic' or BMW. Recently he had it in for GM Motors and how they deal with the Holden Franchise.
I think you should also consider whether auto- or manual transmission. If you are regularly in rush hour traffic then an auto is such much nicer to drive in, although there are times when using a manual would be more fun.

What's the issue with Renault Engines if I may ask?
Never heard of the engines giving problems (unless you're referring to a super old car)

Range is limited but reliable and cheap to fix.
At your budget repair economy is priority.

Do research on cylinder head gasket replacement. That should put things in perspective.

Hi Everyone. I want to thank you for your contribution into getting my first car. You input really contributed to me picking the car which I got. I bought a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo for exactly R46K and I am really happy with it. It's almost been 3 weeks since I got it and I have driven it since then almost daily.
Thank you once again.

I kinda need another help, someone pls point me to the right thread. What's the most affordable unlimited ISP y'all using? I have been on Rain 4G and it's been hell, was thinking the 5G might be any better but haven't tried it yet. I can afford about R800 monthly, which do you recommend? I stream 24 hours. I use mainly IPTV for my Entertainment and Sports.
Pls point me to the right thread so I can put my question up. Thanks everyone.

Do you have fibre installed where you live? R800 a month can get you a very decent fibre line. Unless Rain is literally your only option, I would dump them asap.
