Help with new PC specs...

I'll try and have a look for the link.It doesnt have to do with the quad not running at 1066FSB(which it does) Here is also the link
" If you go with the Q6600, you don't even need highly OC'able ram, since the quadcore cant reach much further than 3.6Ghz anyways.
Q6600: 9 * 266 = 2.4Ghz, DDR2-533 << STOCK speeds
Q6600: 9 * 333 = 3.0Ghz, DDR2-667 << Nice OC
Q6600: 9 * 400 = 3.6Ghz, DDR2-800 << Great OC
"
I can't remeber where i read it first which explained it nicely:confused:

QUOTE" Drop the Ballistix down to the DDR2-800 kit instead. Thats all you really need with a Q6600:

(CPU Multiplier) x [Base FSB speed] = CPU Clock speed
2 x [Base FSB speed] = RAM speed
4 x [Base FSB speed] = Effective FSB speed

On Intel platforms, running the RAM higher than a 1:1 ratio with the CPU is useless. Keep it linked at 1:1:

Q6600: 9 * 266 = 2.4Ghz, DDR2-533 << STOCK speeds
Q6600: 9 * 333 = 3.0Ghz, DDR2-667 << Nice/Easy OC
Q6600: 9 * 378 = 3.4Ghz, DDR2-756 << Good OC, near max for B3 stepping
Q6600: 9 * 400 = 3.6Ghz, DDR2-800 << Great OC, near max for G0 stepping"

Don't know if this helps a bit xeo..

Well WKJ from what i understand it is pretty unecessary to get any faster clocked ram than the 800 for a quad. For a dual core you should or could go higher but for the quad 800 should go well with a high OC and 1:1 timings. Doesn't mean you will automatically get a 3.6 ghz OC but your ram wont hold you back if you do;)

My 10c:

If you gonna get Vista make sure you buy the Ultimate or Business edition. If it gives you a head ache you have the option to down grade to Windows XP Pro at no extra cost.

Its would be nice to own a quad processor but IMO it cost to much at the moment, but hey its your money ;) Oh and I would rather go for a better screen card and a due processor then the cheaper screen card and a quad processor.

Regards,

i've got ddr 800 and mine is clocked in at 3.45 ghz

remember you need good cooling to overclock

i also added another 2 gig and disabled the page file, 2 gig mem is not enough for vista thats for sure

actually i dont see a quadcore becoming cheaper than the q6600 i mean 2.6k for a quaddie is awesome pricing

Rig looks fine.
Get ab Asus board though, like the P5K-E, :D Excellent board that, and far faster than the P35 DQ6 which is a damn speedy board itself.

As for the RAM if you not going to oc then 667 is fine if you are 1066 is what you'll want. Esp with Quad since quad have low fsb ceiling

1:1 gives low bandwidth efficiency no matter the timings so you'll want to set the ram to 1,000MHz even if you keep 400MHz FSB, so you use 4:5 divider. You'll get better performance even for lose timings.

The rig looks god otherwise :D
