Hi guys. So I had a 4mb line with telkom and data with vox. I have had endless problems with intermittent very slow speeds. Telkom guy has been out 6 times. Problem is when he is here it's fine. It doesn't happen any specific time. Last night was out from 10pm to 11pm. The afrihost man said I should try them. He told me they will definitely sort out the problem. Well I switched yesterday my line and data with Afrihost on an 8mb line. Guess what. Same problem. So I called in and the guy tells me it's congestion. Nothing they can do. So why they telling me this now after I switched. When I called them before they switched they promised they could fix it.

Would it still be congestion and that hour? It was fine from 6 to 10pm. Or is this the *** service you get from Afrihost, passing the buck?

I prefer remaining with Telkom. My advice, get Telkom to change your port. Had latency issues, they changed my port, everything went back to normal. Check if others around you are having a similar issue. If they are, there probably is an exchange issue

The challenge is to get people that are around you. I mean you cant exactly log in to IRC and chat to the next guy that will live next door to you. Some people dont have the faintest idea of the technologies so it is Hungarian or Greek to them.
You need the correct person at Telkom or the ISP to go out of their way for you but thats as far as going to Alaska to visit Sarah Pallin.

I dont understand how they can tell you its congestion at the exchange, and then say they can fix it. Its congestion, and that would mean that Open Serve or a techie would have to sort that out. Its a capacity issue, with too many users connected to that exchange. No matter what you do, changing isps etc wont help much im afraid.
