Sorry, I'm sure your'll have seen a thread like this a million of times, but I need your unbiased opinion...
I wanna buy a new gaming console.

Which would be the best console to buy. The XBOX 360 or PS3???

I was leaning towards the XBOX 360, but its been out for awhile already compared to the PS3 which has entered the scene with a growing amount of titles to its name.

Another thing the PS3 has a blu-ray player, but should I even think about that.

Whats your verdict, XBOX 360 or PS3???

(BTW I already gotta Wii)

Easy what games do you enjoy, is it on the console you want to buy,
yes each console got a few exclusives that might change you but
both consoles got the bulk of the games the same.

So for the same price you can buy on the one side a console with a blue ray player,
and on the other side a console and a few games for the same price.

And like you said blu_ray is not a factor.

I will go for this deal - but this is my personal preferance.

Oh my word, not another one!

For the record though, get the PS3. ;)

Thanks for the speedy reply guys,

Blu-ray isn't that big yet anyway, it'll be some time if/when it takes over dvds, so you gotta point.

I'm still open to hear suggestions from the PS3 fans.

OK, say I get a XBOX, should I get the PRO (60gig) or ELITE (120gig). Is there really a big difference between the 2? (though the black console look mean).

The games I'm into are Arcade-type racing games (nfs), 3rd person shooters (big gta fan and crysis) and definitely not rpg.

sorry, but those people with one word replies, could you please give a reason.

Just off the top of my head

PS3:
Wireless
Blu-ray
Free online gaming
40GB to 80GB HD which you can expand yourself with any 2.5" Drive
Pretty shiny looking
Internet Browser with flash (i.e. Youtube, hulu etc)
Games are more expensive (I only buy Pre-played though)
Metal Gear Solid 4

XBOX:
No wireless (R1000 add-on)
No blu-ray
No HD on the cheaper models (again an add-on)
XboX Live is a subscription based service (no free online gaming)
Ugly plastic looking (also personal)
RROD
No internet browser
Control is not to my liking - big and bulky, uncomfortable to hold (thats totally personal though)
Games are cheaper

PS3 is expensive but not relative when considering what you get
Metal Gear Solid 4

Xbox is cheaper/cheapskate and striped bare-bone

As I said. Just a NO brainer! Well done.

Why doesn't anyone ever mention the controllers?
These are probably more important than most of the other bullsh1t mentioned here (like wireless, internet browser WTF?!?).
Simply put, the PS3 controller is absolutely CRAP compared to the 360 controller...no to mention the 360 looks better on most cross platform games, Xbox dashboard KILLS the PS3 XMB interface etc. etc.

Oh, and I see the PS3 has failed AGAIN with a cross-platform game - Fallout3 reportedly looks worse than PC/360 on the black toaster...

Are the XBOX controllers IR?

Whats the main use of the XBOX hard drive other than save game files? Does the XBOX PRO (60gig) have hdmi?

+1 fact is it comes down to wat u can afford. if you just wanna get into next gen gamin go xbox. its cheaper. if you have cash or long for a more sustainable investment, go ps3 (which inevitably is more value for money) gamewise, the ps3 had a slow start but is pickn up speed quickly.

The Xbox controllers are RF, so line-of-sight is not needed (same result as PS3, different means of getting there)

You can rip audio CDs to the HDD & with the next Dashboard update, you'll have the OPTION of installing games to the HDD (PS3 installations are forced down your throat like anything else SONY :p). This will make for a quieter gaming experience & should extend the life of the DVD drive...

Yes, the 60GB would have HDMI...

jarrodr, since our internet connections SUCK in SA, I personally couldn't care less about the HDD size. It's mostly used to donwnload content from Xbox Live etc. But 20GB should be fine for that. You can also rip cd's onto the xbox hdd, but I prefer streaming it over the network. The HDD is great for saving games etc. But if that's the main purpose you'll be using it for don't worry about the size of the HDD.
As far as I know the new pro's have hdmi.
The controllers are not IR (but they are wireless), in other words you don't need line of sight.
