Hi guys,

Just wondering if there is anyone here who can give a recommendation for wifi service providers in Hermanus? Specifically Onrus.

Telkom can only supply 2mbps ADSL where I stay. There is no fibre, so forced to look at the wifi providers.

How much data are you looking for and at what speed? I have a sneaking suspicion LTE might be your best bet

Why uncapped? The speed and amount of data aren't necessarily correlated. Netflix, for example, will probably only run SD on 4mbps (5mbps is recommended for HD), using 1GB per hour. 2 hours of streaming per day then requires about 60 GB per month, which vodacom can deliver for R299.

that's an interesting point. I have been using Rain for off peak hours. I could look at the vodacom option for between 6pm and 11pm.

is the R299 on vodacom a 24 month contract option?

the other problem is that both me and my wife work form home (remote desktop etc) and late hours, so 60gb for instance would prob not be enough even for that time period.

Yes, 24 months. Telkom has a month to month option but that is only 20GB, although it includes a bunch of extras (such as 50GB for streaming)
 
Try out Maxitec. We use them in the Voelklip area. Nothing to really write home about, but then again, there's not much in terms of selection.

It's always funny that people still consider Telkom as the first option. Clearly have no idea what is happening in the background. Stay away from ADSL - it's now part of the History Channel as Neotel (Liquid Telecom) so brilliantly relayed on their billboard in front of their Midrand offices.
