Hetzner shared hosting goes uncapped

Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) still remains, which effectively regulates bandwidth usage. No such thing as uncapped hosting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uncapped ,in this country, is a scam.

Don't all hosting companies apply a similar Acceptable Use Policy, even internationally? They all say "uncapped", but If you're going to host a YouTube mirror on a R100/$5 a month account, they're going to shut you down. That seems reasonable?

And that is the reason why you need to understand an AUP as well as the type of restrictions they enforce - limits on nodes, limits on space, limits on bandwidth, or even limits on everything combined.... this will help you to identify the 'one man shows' from the real hosting experts who spend hundreds of millions of dollars on hosting infrastructures per month.

However, advertising 'uncapped' here in SA basically amounts to scamming as no infrastructure can really offer anything 'uncapped'.

What Hetzner actually said in their e-mail to their clients:

"Hey everyone, great news! We now give you unlimited hosting, but not really unlimited! Enjoy!"

Besides, at the end of the day I would much rather trust my website in the hands of a company who comes outright playing open cards telling me what my limits are, how much BW and space I get....

I hate surprised shutdowns due to system 'misuse' or fines for breaching AUP's where I was under the impression things were 'uncapped'.

Just received the mails from Hetzner. Sweeeet!

Been with them for yonks and they are the best.

You can't put a price on half hour turn around times on support mails, and that includes them configuring/changing settings.
If I do need to make a physical call, I love that I get a local South African, who can speak English perfectly and knows their technical stuff backwards.
You just can't put a price on this level of customer service.

Okay, let me put it this way:

If I need to contact my hosting company's support, I will feel offended as they are delivering a s**t service!

I have been with my hosting company for close to 11 years now, and I can gladly say that I contacted their support only one time in this period of time for a slow website, which eventually turned out to be a Telkom problem.

Their shared hosting services have been set up in such a way that I needed no additional installations, settings changed, or anything else related. I eventually moved to dedicated hosting and now teach myself to do things myself.

My hosting company currently hosts 9% of the Internet and for the heck of it, I just contacted their US offices - call got answered in 3 minutes by an English speaking person. Online support got answered in less than 30 seconds....

In 11 years I was never asked to upgrade my hosting, and I had a couple of websites which used in the 100's of GB in traffic.

And, lastly, in the 11 years I never had a single hour downtime on the shared servers nor on my dedi.

Wonder if Hetzner can beat that...... other than promising their clients uncapped hosting and in the same promise telling them it is not really uncapped..... actually, come to think of it - a slap in the face to any educated person....

And who might that be?

@ elizes ... Choices! Yay for the internet.
