Hi all

Are there any good pc suppliers in George that know what they are talking about, typically for the high end enthusiast or Small Businesses with above average hardware needs?

No I don't mean Matrix or Incredible Connection!

Just save your money and order online from Rebel Tech. You'll save a lot if you're buying high end. Delivery won't cost much.

What do I do in the event of a faulty part?

Just pick up the phone and call them. They'll organise the return and then ship a replacement out. This isn't anything new. Kalahari, Takealot, Wootware and every other online store has been doing this for many years.

And if I had to get it delivered from Joburg then might as well get it from PC International, they seem cheaper.

Closest Distributors to George is probably PE or Cape Town so there must be hardware specialist in George (or Maybe Mosselbay or Knysna)?

If you use a brick and mortar store you're going to pay significantly more for high end components. 'Specialist' isn't the right word - they're just stores that sell computer parts. It's unlikely their employees are specialists in any field. Anything they may know about hardware you could Google for yourself.

A random sample of product comparisons between Rebel Tech and PC Int:

i7-4790K
- R4599 at Rebel
- R4668 at PCI

Cheapest GTX 970:
- R5099 at Rebel
- R5585 at PCI

Kingston 240GB SSD:
- R1542 at Rebel
- R1550 at PCI

You're probably better off shopping at Rebel Tech. Also, Rebel Tech has a proper website.

Can't remember their name, but they were the best we had when I was still in school. In Meade street I think...wait, I'll Googles

EDIT:

There was another dude that sold high end components next to the Post Office in York street. Very small shop but boxes of GFX cards were visible from shop window. Friend of mine used him once or twice.

Wootware is the closest major one I know of, they're in Somerset West if you have a problem ordering from JHB. Excellent service as well.

Dude. I'm in JHB and still buy everything online. You must be a grandpa to still buy in the shops.

I would recommend Wootware, they cost a bit more but are really friendly, some of the staff at RebelTech come across as d*cks. Really makes me not want to spend money there even though I still use them some times because they are close to me.

Whatever you do don't buy from rebeltech. If they sell you faulty goods don't expect them to refund or repair.
I buy from Wootware and I live in Gauteng, best service ever!

Thanks for the tip. Does anybody else share Jaco's feelings about Rebeltech or have different recommendation?

Isn't there an online store that will help me spec build a computer, instead of just adding random stuff to my cart?
For example I want a pc, then the system says ok you need such and such and such.
I specify a CPU for example and the system recommends mobo, ram etc

I've never had issues with Rebel Tech, but I have heard that Wootware's service is great. If it doesn't cost much more it is probably worth going with Wootware. You only need to check out Wootware's Hellopeter page to see that their service is rock solid. Furthermore, they're the only store that sells Powercolor video cards. They're much cheaper than most other Radeon brands but have great performance. I bought my HD7970 from them.

You definitely don't want that. The costs involved with building such a system will just be passed on to you with higher prices. And you'd be putting too much faith in their recommendations. You're far better off just Googling for hardware discussions.
