High Gain External Antennas now available

what is the URL for that again? will test tomorrow (as I've already disconnected the antenna :p)
 
Would this antenna work for a fixed wireless phone setup as well?
ie having a voice phone that is out of ideal range of a tower and setting up a static system...

without the antenna connected

    * Estimated line speed: 293.4 (kilobits/second)
    * Estimated line speed: 36 (kiloBytes/second)

  • Dashboard: 2/5 bar 3G
  • My app: 07/30 (-99dBm)


with the antenna connected

  • Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

    * Download time: 11.484 seconds
    * Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
    * Estimated line speed: 355.3 (kilobits/second)
    * Estimated line speed: 43.5 (kiloBytes/second)

You've got a MASSIVE increase in signal strength. 36 dB, that is 4000 times to be exact. 3G can't give you more than 384 kbps. What did you expect, 1MBps? ;)

You are definetly getting your investment's worth :)

You're right v3g, I was hoping for the improved throuput, but the prob is, that general usage is still up to ****. It's like using IS ADSL, the overall throuput is there, but only benefit when downloading big files :p

Do you mean when say browsing sites the response is slow?
I find sometimes when browsing there is a slight pause before the page loads. But once it starts loading it is very fast. Can you elaborate, Cyberbob?
 
I'd almost say it feels like a latency type issue (like with IS ADSL). The strange thing is it used to be really quick, but alas, in more recent times, it's all gone pair shaped :(

I am sure there's a way, but Vodacom probably wouldn't want us to know :)
 
Actually not, the load balancers automatically assign the IP.

Latency will affect interactive applications while non-interactive applications should benefit more from the high throughput you're seeing.

Normal WEB browsing is much less interactive than say a telnet session so you should see WEB pages load quite fast.

Remember, your testing local and the bottleneck might well be international. Have you tried some of the international speed tests?

and did you do any "testing" last night?
