High Gain External Antennas now available

Have a look at the main myADSL page, there is a link in the top-middle. Or try internetfrog.com.

No... did not get my laptop back...

Maybe let it loose on the forum? They must be very curious by now :)

Was wondering why you did not mention anything :) Not like you to miss this!

Cyberbob, did indeed write a signal strength meter to assist with the new external antenna setup.

lol ...

I have written a win32 app that monitors the signal strength that is received from the Novatel card (by basically sending it the AT+CSQ command).

I have only tested it on my own laptop, so not sure how well it will work once unleashed. The only real area that I'm "worried" about, is the way in which I automatically obtain the the 2 com ports assigned by the card.

As of yet, there are no imediate plans to port to linux, or to support any other devices (mainly as I don't have access to those devices :p)

Does someone have a site that I can host the file on (about 500k) ?

I don't mind ... can you arrange that with him? I suspect there will be a few changes made after initial release (as people think of things that I didn't), so would I have to bug him every time to upload new versions?

hmm ... I'd have to think about that ... lots of "top secret" highly complex code in there ...

nah jokes ... it's written in Delphi (not sure how many Delphi developers still out there), but I'm not sure if there is a need to make it open source anyway, as it's a very very very very simple app.

But I prolly wouldn't have a problem there.

the "project" is small enough that I'll just maintain it for now, but if it gets too big, then I'll look at the OpenSource solution ... part of the problem is, some of the components I use, I has to pay for :p

anyway, I've now "unleashed" the app onto the forum ... GOD save us all!

:)

yeah me neither, I think what ic meant was if you put your delphi code up, someone might just port it

Cyberbob, I'm another Cape Town 3G/GPRS customer, also in need of signal improvement using a Novatel card. Have you got your own antenna yet, or are you still using v3g's one?

Are you interested in a ordering from Poynting with me, to save on courier costs?

As of now, Poynting have no cables made up to connect their LPDA 20/21 antennae to Novatel cards, and won't have them until January. I'm still waiting for Dartcom, who make the cables, to call me back. Apparently my one-item order is rather small beer, so maybe if two or more people are interested, they'll make an effort.

I'm still using V3G's one. I'm prolly not going to buy one just yet, looking at getting the router and antenna at the same time, and I just don't have the cash at the mo :p

Thanks for the reminder, need to calculate the beer quota! :D

by now it should be hitting overdraft type figures

btw ... did you ever try the signal meter?

Is this in any way serious - do you actually meet up for beer?

how can you doubt such a long standing tradition?

men have been bartering with beers for a very long time!

:D

Heh, yes that's true. So let me know when and where the next CTVC3G Users' Group meets for beer.

Yes, very cool. The one thing that catches people out is the error when the port's already in use with the dash. Maybe you can add a text line that prompts them to close it or even detect if it is running and then prompt them to close it?

Vodacom's Group COO (busy writing his own!) asked if you can add support for other cards, so I'm supposed to get them to you at some time.

Would probably pass them by bio as well....
