Hi everybody,

First, please apologize for my awful english, I'm french, and I will try to do my best for you to understand me :)

I play in one of the best Europeans Guild, for professional reasons, I've moved in SA, anyway I'm still playing WOW.

In BC instance, and in the Outlands I have a "playable" latency around 400 and 800, Even if I am a healer, I ve learned how to heal and play by taking care of the Lag.

The problem is, that in the Instances for 25 players (Serpentshrine, Maghteriddon, Grull's Lair), It s totally unplayable, I lag + Freeze + deco.

We are fighting for the 1st Kill Worldwide, and it s a big problem for me ... I become completly Useless ...

I wanted to know if among you, anybody has met the same problems, or if with an other provider than I burst the problem would be solve.

I have Iburst 1mb ...

Anyway what is the best Provider for playing ? Telkom 4 mbs ?

Thanks for you help and your patience for trying to understand me !

Ok so u in Nihilium ?

Your lag will definitely be more manageable if you switch to ADSL as it is consistent in its throughput online. With iBurst you're susceptible to packet loss which is causing your lag. Even if your latency is between 400 and 800. The key word here is packets.

The way iBurst (and for that matter, any wireless provider) structure their connectivity, is queue based. You may be 1st, 13th and 55th in the queue waiting for your packets to be returned. Number 13 times out and never makes it to you, which gives the impression of lag and choppy ness when playing.

I'd definitely recommend ADSL. Click on my link below, Web Africa now has the all-in-one ADSL everyone has been talking about. Plus, you can always switch bandwidth providers as much as you like, unlike iBurst where you're stuck using one bandwidth provider.

How does that answer his question?

Nope it doesn't nothing will help hims do a 25 man Instance from SA. just the sad truth.

He metioned the Guild he's in that's why i asked.

Anyway.. Webafrica might help a little, the sad truth is... You're living in South Africa now mate.

At least you could have said that in the first place? And maybe PM him with your guild question?

Yes, South Africa has ****ty internet and lag will be high due to the shapedness-o-Telkom. But going the ADSL route from iBurst will definitely help him with his problem tremendously. And that is what he asked for, if he should go ADSL.

I have seen many 25 man instances run with no problems like he's been describing. So... yes.... ADSL would be the way to go, but no, you won't get international speeds due to the obvious Monopoly.

I m not a Nihilium, I can't play 19 hours a day lol :) I m a Guild Member from Empire, the best french guild ...

For Web Africa which are the delays for installation ? I don t want to wait 3 weeks lol

I want to say that I didn t have any problems for Naxxaramas that we cleaned for fun at 28 last night ...So I think that maybe the problem is for the server of 25 instanc

Wouldn't getting unshaped ADSL help?

From what I've seen, unshaped doesn't have much of an upper hand to normal shape. Once he gets ADSL, he will be able to experiment with 2 accounts and find what best suits him, unlike his current situation

Unfortunately we don't live in Europe,or else out ADSL would be installed the same day. I suspect Web Africa handles all the logistics, where Telkom will still do the install. This takes between 3-6 weeks (sometimes longer)

So expect a wait. Just know that it's well worth it in the end.

Not an offense but I would like the adivse of gamers and not the one of a saleman :)

Hi I am on Webafrica unshaped prepaid at the moment. My latencies even in 25 mans stay close to 500-650ms I have no lag spikes at all... (for now atleast) Killed Gruul last night with no problem, and it were realy cool since I had a wow break for 2 months :D

It took me forever to get ADSL, about 24 days, added that it took just over 2 weeks to get a fixxed telkom line installed (there was a line but they needed just to come out test the line and change the number). Then about 2 weeks for the Self Install Option bundle to get to me...

I cant give you comparrisons with the shaped accounts, but currently there seems to be little difference, although I suspect that it is still only a temp problem, some problems with rerouting people through the wrong channels.

I also noted that the lag/ freezing has more to do with your computer settings as I still get freezes playing on my laptop but not on my PC. Also the TBC servers seems to be lagging a bit more than the old world instances, and due to our longer pings we might get more packet losses, I think

Hope the above helps, and good luck with your raiding!

Being in a similar situation I found that 25 man content definately puts pressure on SA internet. I cannot tell you the number of times I have dced while healing the tank on the 5th channeler in Mag.

Sadly I cannot offer you any decent advice, I have adsl and an unshapped account from Webafrica and tbh its quite shocking. Insane lag during the day and plenty dcs at night.

The dcs are more from Telkoms side though but getting them to even look at something like that is a joke.

That said its about a million times better than when I used iburst. Although it took 4 months for Telkom to install my DSL line

Galdrielle.

While physical bandwidth above 384kbps doesn't make that much of a difference, I'd recommend you take a 512/1024kbps line if the budget is not an issue, if only for downloading patches/updates faster.

An unshaped ISP account certainly has a marked advantage over shaped in my experience, and that goes for all the ISP's on the saix backbone, which goes through sat3 instead of a dodgy satelite. Go unshaped, no-brainer imo.

The quickest way to get ADSL is to phone telkom and when u order the line, tell them u want to take the self install option. That way you dont pay R400+ for installation, and more importantly, you wont have to wait 1000 millenia for a telkom technician to become available. If I remember correctly you will have to supply your own ADSL modem/router (might be wrong on this) and obviously set it up yourself. If ADSL is available in your area and they can allocate a port to you, it could be done in a week's time under ideal circumstances :p

*edit : I'm also not convinced by the 25man raids put to much strain on our shoddy internet connections argument" I ran MC/BWL juuust fine, and those were 40mans.

ADSL will be fine for 25 - 40 man raids, u shouldnt have any problems, i use a 512k line and have only experienced lag once during a 40man and it was month end when networks busy with geeks ripping their porn before cap limit is reset. i use a shaped account, works perfectly even tho they supposedly dont allow online gaming..i also use telkom as SP even tho they are the biggest sharks out there i have gone way over my cap limit loads of times and never been capped and they are the cheapest.

I play on the US server Stormrage and Whisperwind. I have an extensive background of Telecommunications and Information Technology. I've been ranked as 2nd best player in Starcraf 1998 for South Africa. Before then I played on Kali with Warcraft 2 and Duke Nukem 3D, whereafter I switched over to Diablo and Diablo 2. I've been playing World of Warcraft for a year now, before then I played Ultima Online. I also play Unreal and Quake. When I was a kid we had a ZX Spectrum, an Atari, a Sega Megadrive and we own a few arcade machines. I know where Telkom ends and the International begins. I know who routes through who and who peers with who. I know which ISP resells which accounts and through who they are hosted. I know who provides the best service and who is trying to rip you off. I know how the wireless companies work (been part of the Sentech Concerned Users Group and meetings) as well as how iBurst work, and how much bandwidth is allocated to international and how the decisions are made to purchase more bandwidth and even (at the time) knew how much they pay for it. I also host several servers and admin a couple of others.

If there is ANYONE capable of answering your questions about gaming and internet in South Africa, i've had them all. 24k/33.3k/56k/ISDN/Dual ISDN/ADSL/Diginet/iBurst/Sentech (and soon WiMax) and know what is going on.

90% of all the games I play is online only. I know the in's and out's of billing and which package is best bang for your buck, because unlike kids today, I had to work for every cent I had to afford what I wanted...

So whatever dude. if you don't want to take my advice and rather listen to guys who know half of nothing and regurgitate information they heard about while their parents pay for everything they have. (no offense to those who provided him with solid answers reflecting my own I gave earlier)

Good luck
