Over the past weeks my connection have become almost unusable! Latency 10 x more than usual, 30ms is now 300ms. As we have 3 concurrent connections in paarl and stellenbosch i suspect Afrihost! But i may be wrong. They have had latency and authentication problems ongoing of late. Anybody else having similar problems ?

Test with another ISP to rule out Afrihost.

Its Afrihost, I am on Uncapped Unshaped Business and experiencing the same issue. Tested with an account from another ISP and the problem is gone.

You can't just blame the ISP like that.

Do a pathping from command prompt to a pingable URL.

pathping www.mybroadband.co.za

It will take some time to complete. Once complete, check the hops and the latency to it. If the 2nd hop has high latency, then it's Telkom, if it's after it hits the ISP, then it's the ISP.

Any suggestions for a good isp with free account to test out?

@Method second hop does not respond and times out, even with high time-out, read somewhere that the new telkom gear no longer responds to icmp echo requests. Chould this be true?

Could be. Mine responds though and I can see it's my DSLAM that's freakin slow.

Also, it's only during peak hours that I have an issue.

Afrihost has a trial account. Maybe give that a bash, but do a few tests...not just 1 speed test and then blame your current ISP :p

We experienced the same problems on the West Coast (pings 400 - 500) and other ISP's ran normal.

can i private message my free 1GB DSL ? username / Password? :)

Seems Afrihost is the problem by their own admittance.

"Our network team and management are aware that some of our clients have been experiencing poor internet performance over our ADSL services. Due to high demand for bandwidth on our network, affected clients may be experiencing slow speeds and high latency, particularly during periods when demand is very high. We sincerely apologise for the poor experience, and we’d like to assure our clients that their feedback and concerns are very important to us, and every possible resource at our disposal is being employed to improve overall network performance."
