Higher Cell C price surprise

The fact that they changed their prices not just on new contracts but existing makes me wonder if they are busy making the accounting books look better for potential buyers. With the immediate increase and knowing that you will only be loosing these existing contract customers on average in 12 months (those that will not be happy anymore) that will give them the short term gain but long term loss. So it does not look like a long-term action but short-term view playing out.

Could it be that CellC will not be here by October/November 2015 and the market only be left with Vodacom, MTN and Telkom Mobile(ie. MTN network, Telkom reseller) and Virgin Mobile (Vodacom network, Virgin reseller)? Then one wonders if the statements about unsustainable might just have been true after-all.

Oh - somebody feel like taking a guess where Orange may fit into the picture?
 
I can't wait for my contract to end next month. Will be porting to Telkom or maybe MTN (from where I came). At least their networks work in the areas that I frequent!
 
I'm considering moving to Telkom Mobile, how do they compare to other operators? Any issues with the signal or dropped calls?

I have found Telkom's network extremely reliable here in Durban. Where there is no signal you will roam on MTN (and you are not limited to MTN's edge like Cell C roaming on Vodacom.)

Get yourself a prepaid Telkom Sim and test their network for a week. A telkom shop will give you a sim for free. Just take Rica documents.

What if the repercussions are that the others increase their prices?:eek:
They all were very competitive because of Cell C now Cell C snubs everyone and increases the prices, wont the others also do the same??
 
Already bought two Telkom prepaid sim cards and waiting for my contracts to end.

That's what I wanna know. lol

They billed me from SMS' sent from my data sim, which I never even had in a phone - and I certainly never even opened that ****ty app of theirs to even connect, I just created my own connection. Apparently 19 SMS' or something I remember it was. So I asked for the itemised billing so that they can prove that I sent them. But no, I had to pay for that as well.

The data thing was actually with MTN. The wife is still with them. Data usage is way higher still than her S4 even shows. There was a point where she just used a prepaid sim because her data usage was so high, yet her data was still depleted every month.

Luckily we have Wifi now though. They also couldn't show us exactly what data was used, which is probably much more complicated than showing SMS' I guess.

It's an interesting move to make. I'm sure they knew the backlash would occur (:erm: if they didn't).

SO, a calculated dick-move. For what? Is the R10 per account going to offset this negative press and sentiment? I doubt it.. What's their other goal?

I'd love to know what really goes into making such decisions. IE, not the crap they feed MyBB and the rest of the media...
