Hijacker Killer labelled a racist

must have been another tourist from across the border doing his population trimming...

That's in some states. In other countries where guns are rare,
violent crime is very rare. I can speak having lived in an Eastern
European country (where guns were outlawed) as a child, we had virtually zero violent crime,
bar the occasional taxi driver murder. Violent crime was very
rare and murderers were hanged after a trial with right to appeal,
but the violence rate was very low. I believe the same can be
said of 1st world countries with low gun ownership - I'll bring
Japan up again, where violent crime is exceptionally rare.

Sorry not only to do with non availability of guns but mentality and breed plays a major role. Also look at race distribution in Japan and remember they have martial arts. :p

Asians are less inclined to commit violent crime. It is a statistical fact.

Why should the lady hand over her ring? I would advise my wife to hand over her jewellery, but did it occur to you that the ring could have more than just monetary value to her?
Anyway, if I'm robbed I want a Marc to save the day for me, rather than losing my money, sentimental objects and leaving the duty of recovery with the police.

I am with you 100% on this one.

You know how many times people hand over their possessions and end up dead anyway?

Time to fight back people.

Damn straight. Shoot to kill

if he did wounded guy 1 and 2 and they 'missed' jail, obviously going back to original john who just "wounded" them and finish the job.

criminals are on vacation in RSA - no justice sustem to fear, no arm of the law to get them; why would they go soft ?

currently it seems they are ousting each other in what to do with their victims, cut fingers here and poke eyes out there...

The problem for me is not the two hijackers he shot (good job), but the fact that he arrested a black man (who was with his young daughter in a car) as a suspected accomplice and caused lots of trauma that way...

police arrest the wrong people all the time. If he was behaving suspiciously at the scene, would you rather let him go or check him out first?(presumably the daughter was not seen at this stage).

A person may employ deadly force, if he/she believes that his/her life is in immediate, imminent danger and he/she truely believes that if he/she does not employ deadly force, he/she would forfeit his/her life.

Obviously first prize is to wound the aggressor. Someone who is across the room waving a knife at you does not pose and immediate and imminent danger to you. Someone who is running away from you does not pose a danger to you. You will go to jail. Even if that person has already stabbed you and is leaving you, and you have the strength to get your firearm and then track down the thug, you may not shoot if he is running away. You will go to jail.

I beg to differ that someone with a nknife does not pose a big threat, a good knife fighter can close that gap and gut you like a fish, see link im including. http://www.pipersystem.com/why_cops_shoot.html

shocking indeed but we will never know why. How you look at this aspect of the incident depends where you come from....

Disagreed the treatment of a violent crime is severe... death... In our society violent criminals are jailed and released into society to commit the same violent crimes over and over...

Agreed... in the Asian countries men do not compete with women or children for position... Their self-esteem are automatically higher as they compete with other men and their position not threatened by women...

Yes breed plays a role because of the competition factor, and the severe way dealt with crime plays a major role...

I appluad his efforts with the hijackers. However his racial profiling of the guy who was with his DAUGHTER, as an accomplice??? Since when do hijackers bring their kids along?

What does not surprise me though is the opinion of some of the forumites agreeing that he did the right thing!

I hope he sues that reservist in his personal capacity, as he was not on duty!

I'm trying to find a reference to anyone other than the victim's (iow the woman who had the gun to her neck) daughter being present - or the racial profiling you refer to.

here is an extract from a response on a blog about this:

"Its really unfortunate that that happened to the man and his daughter… but i must admit that in the rush of things i would have to say that they would need to interrogate people… esp people who could be getaway drivers… and if you read the article the guys says this:

“This all took place about five metres from me. I couldn’t reverse my car as there was a car behind me. Suddenly the reservist comes up to me, pointing his gun and ordering me out the car… ”

now picture this scene from the eyes of the cop. He has just foiled this hijack attempt. he knows that they came in a car (if your stealing a porsche you are going 2 follow it for ages and do ur homework. this isnt a VW @ a stop street) … so there must have been another car. he sees this guy in a car 5m from all this who ‘tries’ to reverse… doesnt that now look like hes trying to get away?

im not saying that the guy is innocent for wrongfully arresting this dude… but its an unfortunate thing that he was there and ‘acted’ in a way that in THAT circumstance could be suspected as trying to get away."
