Hisense Q8600 Thread

Agreed, but that wouldn't really help with interface problems, HDR processing/settings etc. Atleast it would solve app-related issues.

Is 4K HDR on an android box via HDMI easy to achieve these days? Getting 4K HDR @4:4:4 60Hz is a struggle with my PC.
Media boxes have surpassed PCs a long time ago.
They have dedicated ASICs for video processing.
A little media box like the nVidia shield will blow anything but the most powerful gaming PCs out of the water for video playback.

With all that said

4k HDR 4:4:4 @ 60Hz is not going to happen on this TV.
HDMI 2.0 doesn't have enough bandwidth.
4k HDR 4:2:2 @ 60 Hz is the best you can hope for.

As for media playback, I have an nVidia Shield and it is able to play back HDR 4K 4:2:2 with ease.
However I'm using ARC and I'm unable to get the TV to go beyond 24Hz for HDR 4K 4:x:x (depending on content it matches the content native colour space).
Non HDR @ 60Hz is not a problem.

Since the nVidia shield supports HDR at 50/60Hz I can only assume the TV doesn't support it.

EDIT: I just realized, my limit applies when I'm using DolbyVision. Perhaps the TV doesn't support DV above 24Hz.

I think you need to refresh yourself on the HDMI specifications then set your expectations accordingly...
Also your refresh rate should match the content refresh rate, anything else degrades your viewing experience and for Netflix that is roughly 23.xxxHz for HDR content

Please share your source for 4k content that runs smoothly on the Mibox
I download content (movies approximately 40gb+ in size) and play via Kodi. Content is 4k HDR 10, output resolution is 4k 60hz (able to reduce down to 24hz within kodi) and I've set the chroma to 4:4:4 within the display settings.

Do I see a difference between 4:2:0 ; 4:2:2 and 4:4:4... Nope, But I set it to max for whatever benefit their could be.

Thanks for the media box info. I've always liked the Nvidia Shield boxes, and Media boxes in general for their format support (4K HDR streaming certifications especially) and stream-lined user interfaces. The new Google Chromecasts with Android TV looks really good too. Will probably get one when my PC is moved back to the desk/monitor setup.

Yes, I am aware of the technical limitations of HDMI2.0 as it tops out at 18GBps. I got a bit confused with the "Enhanced modes", there always seem to be reports from users who claim it to be possible but they're probably unaware that the TV switches to 4:2:0 or it defaults to 8-bit colour. 18Gbps is sufficient for 4k60 4:4:4, but HDR takes the bandwidth requirement up to 23 GBps. Doesnt seem like much more but HDMI2.1 is required.

I set my TV to 4k60, 4:2:0 HDR via HDMI on a GTX01070 when watching film content. You're probably right about Dolbyvision and the framerate limit, but I haven't seen DV content on anything besides netflix.

Still it sounds like you aren't matching your frame rate to content frame rate... It is wasted processing power creating duplicate frames and overall it only hurts the viewing experience...

It's not so bad. A lot of content is streamed with the built-in apps anyway.

The content played from PC with MadVR looks great to me. But yes, panning scenes could be better.

I'm selling my 65 inch u8qf for R18500 DM me if interested I'm in JHB.... There is nothing wrong with the TV at all! 2 days old.

I've been reading through so many Hisense/Q8600 (I own the 55q8600) as I have picked up a few issues with mine. Firmware j1127.

After 6 months of owning the TV, one of the Led back lights started to flicker randomly when watching TV. It was difficult to watch any TV as your eye was always drawn to it. Phoned up Hisense and they replaced the panel free of charge.

I initially bought this TV for the excellent bang for your buck regarding picture quality however the "smart" features let the TV down. I see most people bought a Mi/android box. Surely after spending 12k on TV you wouldn't have to buy something like that.

Has anybody have issues mirroring their PC screens to the TV? I constantly have issues and it's a hit/miss kind of thing. It either does work or it doesn't. Another useless thing is the web browser. When going onto certain websites the web browser freezes and then crashes causing the TV to return to the Home Screen. I'm assuming the ram/memory is full and hence the crash.

Thirdly when casting videos from my cellphone from websites using Dlna apps (as the browser crashes I can't use that) most of the time I get an error saying playback failed. I'm assuming due to video/code issues. Can anybody confirm this?
Seriously considering taking the TV back to hisense to get it sorted out! So many issues.
@Hisense SA please can you help.
TIA

I'm looking at the 65Q8600 for a potential black friday buy, if there's a pricedrop on takealot.
Overall impressions? Yay or Nay?
I currently have an old 46" 1080p Samsung

So with more use from my 8600 some kinks in its armour is being noticeable as to why this TV is "cheap"

The OS is limited ... Not much useable apps outside whats preinstalled. Also cant recall if any of the apps ever updated since ive got it

Youtube sound goes from normal to this weird spatial type of vibe. Feels a sw update can fix this (point above )

But bigger than the OS is the backlight ... It forms horrendous bloom sometimes around text or starfields ... And the light itself takes a while to turn off when moving between scenes. And is something noticeable and something that is distracting. The algorithm to manage light control could be tweaked to manage this

It will definitely be an upgrade on your current set. But I would only get it if it’s a really good deal. I’ve returned 2 of them because I just wasn’t impressed.

2 days ago the price was R18500 ;-)

why are you selling the tv?
