While there is a general Hisense TV opinions thread, I think finding the odd firmware link for a specific model or opinions can be difficult. I've therefore decided to create this thread so the Q8600 owners can discuss here without bulking up the more general Hisense thread.

This first post will be used to store links to relevant reviews, firmware or other content.

My impressions

I picked up the 55Q8600 from Masons in Benoni @ R9999 yesterday. Really happy with the panel, with a few minor irritations which I will cover as I go along.

What I'm upgrading from:
Sony 40W600B (1080p LED)

Current setup:
Hisense 55Q8600
Harman Kardon AVR151S
Xiaomi MiBox 3
10Mb fiber

Opening the box, I found the TV in a non-sealed plastic bag with finger holes for lifting the TV out. Once the TV was out, I noticed fingerprints as mentioned by others in the Hisense TV thread. Cleaned them off with a microfiber cloth and all was well.

Initial setup saw me
  • Enabling enhanced HDMI to allow HDR and 10bit colour from the MiBox. Otherwise it defaulted to 8bit.
  • Disabling Motion Enhancer on all inputs. I hate the Soap Opera Effect, and the Hisense does a good job of passing content through with the motion enhancer turned off. 24/25Hz content comes through quite nicely, but watching newer content with it turned off results in some judder (e.g. Stranger Things on Netflix). I did manage to get the judder out by turning one of the Picture settings to custom. This exposed the judder removal setting that most sites refer to when setting up the H9F.
Issues
  • Have noticed some "vignetting" at the top corners. It's obviously more noticeable in scenes where the entire screen is brightly lit, but not a major distraction. In fact, I think I'm growing to like it:unsure: I'm sure not many will feel the same.
  • WiFi seems to be 2.4GHz only. Shouldn't be a problem for most people, as 4K streaming would need, at most, 25Mbps which 2.4GHz is perfectly capable of providing. For me it is a bit of an irritation since my complex is quite congested, and I prefer keeping most devices on 5GHz. It does support 5Ghz, just certain bands are not supported. I changed my AP band and then it showed up on the TV.
Issues with the MiBox
I don't think this has anything to do with the TV, but the MiBox struggles to ramp up to full 4K on Netflix. Using the Netflix app on the TV sees a proper 4K after about a minute (I'm on a 10Mb line which is technically less than what Netflix recommends for 4K with HDR). I'm an ass. I had limited bandwidth to the TV. MiBox streams 4K perfectly fine now.

For those interested, pressing the blue button on the remote will display current streaming info in the Netflix app. EDIT: It seems after the latest OTA update (J11xx) this blue button no longer displays streaming info.:cautious:

Will add bits and pieces as I test further.

Awesome thread @dhirennaidoo. I too have a Q8600 which I bought over BF. Love the TV. Picture quality is incredible, however when watching on DSTV now the picture quality drops as compared to watching it via a decoder. I realized that this is the DSTV now app and not the TV itself.

I was very happy with 4K content on Netflix as well as the overall upscalling of 1080p movies/videos.

I was going to use my TV apps to stream everything instead of going through an android box. When it came to movies, instead of plugging my laptop in via HDMI or connecting a USB I was going to cast the video to the TV. As mentioned in the other thread I found that when I cast (directly to TV) from my cellphone or laptop, it resulted in the movie (1080p) pausing for a few seconds every now and again. Do you perhaps thave this issue? Not too sure if I got a dud or something?

I am also very happy with pic especially DolbyVision and HDR. Last TV I bought was in 2009 and this tv was so bright when compared to the old one that I had to adjust setting way down.

Does anyone get HDR or Dolbyvision pop-up messages when using the J1127 firmware posted above or by pressing the INFO button?

I'm on the lastest firmware (not too sure what number) I was watching a movie off my USB and a Dolby Vision pop up appeared for 5 seconds or so.

I was quite impressed with the dolby atmos demo I watched.
From where I was sitting I could definitely hear the sounds to my sides and above me.

It pops on me on B8000 on latest firmware.

Speaking of the latest firmware, I watched a youtube vid where someone was reviewing the american version and he reckons to never let the tv update the firmware.
Has these firmware updates fixed actual issues for you guys ?
Or is it like ,if it aint broke, dont fix it ?

I have not updated to the latest firmware yet (mostly because of what @e4et says above), and do not receive any popups to notify of DV or HDR mode. What I do to determine if they are active, is open Picture settings, and then look at the picture mode.

On my second 65" Q8600. I do have slight vignetting in corners. Cant say I like it maybe it's the OCD, not sure if this is the norm.

Do not have notification pop ups even when watching Dolby Vision content off Netflix.

The DSE is big problem for me. First unit was really bad this one better but still there. Example watching letter boxed movie I can see the light bloom/bleed contrasted against picture and black letter boxed section. Have had it a week now and thought it might go away but is very distracting. Again not sure what is acceptable. Would be interested to see other peoples pictures please.

Nit picking here, but menu system cumbersome and slow to react. Also remote needs proper line of sight to work properly.

As far as I'm aware the TV supports Fat32 and NTFS. Not exFat.

I ended up formatting my HDD from exFat to NTFS so the wife and I can enjoy some movies. (Format was done on a Windows 10 PC)

Now my problem is that after a few days of use I've encountered an issue following the below:

- I'm currently a Mac user so I get my movies on the mac and the transfer to my hard drive (NTFS)

- with the above said, Mac's don't support NTFS natively so 3rd party software is generally necessary

- TV read all content transfered onto the drive and worked like a charm

- Now when going into the HDD, any file or folder that I've transfered over does not show up so I'm unable to see the content (all content previously on the HDD still works perfect and shows up)

-However when deleting files/folders from the TV, it actually registrars that I have and content isn't visible

Not sure if this is a TV issue or HDD?

NOTE #- the HDD reads perfect on other TV's and laptops and sees all content as it should.

The Rtings.com settings posted for H8F and H9F don't correlate to the menus on the Q8600. Has anyone found settings for Q8600?

I too was hoping someone has managed to get proper color settings. You can work off rtings.com to a certain degree as there are somethings that are common- gamma etc. But life would be easier if it worked off the Q8600 menu

What firmware version are you on?

I haven't had need to apply all of the Rtings.com settings to the Q8600 except for what they mention as the "Film" preset under Motion Enhancement. My Q8600 seems to just have Clare, Standard and Smooth. Eventually I chose Custom, and set the judder removal to level 1. This basically removed most judder from 24Hz content without introducing the SOE.

Which settings are you looking for specifically?

Looking for a detailed guide on how to calibrate the colour settings on the Q8600. Rtings.com has a great colour settings for the H9F, however the menus are totally different as well as some of the settings. this make its hard to make there adjustents on the Q8600.

Are you referring to the Colour Tuner and the 2/20-point Gamma settings?
