Hisense Q8600 Thread

Received mine (65") over the weekend. Massive upgrade from my 10 year old 40" Sony Bravia. Pioneer 820 AV receiver needs an upgrade now. Had to resort to optical for now. No ARC on the amp. But not a big issue, time to upgrade the amp any case.

Has anyone used the RemoteNow android app they advertise? Phone does not pick up the TV, although they are on the same Wifi.

I use the remotenow app... works for me on my huawei Mate 20 running android 10

Another possible quirk.

My TV outputs to a samsung home theatre via ARC. All other inputs (RPi with Kodi, and a PS4) go into the TV's HMDI port. Surround sound works great for both of those, and the pre-installed Netflix.

However, if I switch to the pre-installed YouTube, then surround sound breaks and does not return.

The only way I can get it back is to turn everything off at the wall. Not ideal.

Anyone experience anything similar?
It could be a TV problem. As all the apps use surround through Dolby Digital except Youtube, the Youtube app will change sound output to PCM. If you then go back to the other apps it should automatically change back to Dolby but seems it then stays on PCM. I don't have a Hisense TV but check if your output is maybe set to something like Auto - could be the problem. Change this to Dolby Digital and see if it works?

What is the big change?

When I look at the specifications, I don't see anything about the panel being different. I suspect it may have more local dimming zones, but can't be sure because the equivalent 65Q8600 doesn't list the number of local dimming zones.
Yep, new one 180 dimming zones vs 132 on 65” Q8600. Speakers also now appear to be front facing in bigger bottom bezel vs down facing on q8600, so likely a bit better. Smooth Motion rate also slightly up from 200-240, but h9f is 480. Contra ratio of 5000, nits 1000 peak etc appear to be the same. H9f us model has 6000:1 contrast ratio.

Pretty minor changes, I expect the Q8600 will likely stop receiving updates once that model launches (likely at a higher price initially). I also expect that one of the "reasons" for an upgrade will be software related

So I got a 65Q8600, some things:
1. Does anyone else feel like movies don't seem as good anymore? I can't quite put my finger on it, not sure if it the video is too fast or what. (upgraded from a 1080p Plasma TV)
2. The screen is super bright. I felt like I was staring into the sun. Had to tone it down a bit.
3. CEC power down doesn't work. The TV is able to power down my Nvidia Shield Pro but the opposite does not work. TV just refuses to power off from CEC
4. Struggled to get Nvidia Shield Pro to recognize Dolby Vision, had to disable HDMI advanced, then re-enable for it to finally show up. Really weird.
5. Does anyone else have two backlight bleeds (noticeable with lights off during dark scenes) near the bottom left and right of the screen. Not quite the corner but close to it?

Took delivery of the 65Q8600 yesterday from Takealot. Took a week to arrive and when I unboxed it I can clearly see the top right and right hand side frame is bent. Anybody else have this? Takealot now wants to go through a 12 day process of collecting, checking, maybe agreeing to exchange it and then another week of delivery....so nearly a 3 week process.

Moral of the story, don't buy a TV from takealot. But does anybody else have uniformity issues on the metal bezel/frame?

1. I upgraded from a 1080p LG and I don't have any problems with movies. I did disable most of the processing on the 65Q8600 though. I think processing could introduce weird results if it starts lagging behind. You probably know this but settings also have to be adjusted seperately for HDR and Dobly Vision.
2. This is true, I also toned down the brightness substantially for normal viewing.
3. THIS! I too have the Nvidia Shield and this problem is annoying me endlessly. I am using the IR on the shield remote to power down the TV but CEC power off would be sooo much better.
4. Thanks for the tip, I will try this. ;)
5. I noticed the backlight bleed originally but then set the Local Dimming to maximum and it doesn't bother me anymore, no light on a black background so no bleed, and when the image in those areas is not black, thus turning on the backlight, you don't see the backlight bleed anyway.

1. See my first post about reducing Judder setting
3. Also have this issue with a Mibox 3

Marie, you have the pre 2019 Shield so I don't think it supports DV. Unless you've upgraded?
True, but after getting this TV, and seeing all the features my 2017 shield can't output, I am progressively more inclined to upgrade to the new shield and when I do this tip will save me hours of fiddling. Unfortunately the shipping from Amazon has become pretty expensive since the lockdown, so I am holding on a bit. At least most of the shortcomings can be circumvented by using the TVs built-in Youtube and Netflix apps or even using the Kodi addons for Youtube and Netflix to get Dolby Atmos and HDR support.
