Why do people keep stuff they download? I'm running out of space again so why go buy another drive? I've probably gone back and watched something again less than ten times in the last 5yrs. If I really do get the urge I can always just download it again and there will most probably be a newer higher quality rip available anyway! Why do we hoard stuff?

I think it's time for a clean slate when it comes to movies.

Personally I love to rewatch old favourites from time to time. Also if my parents or siblings need to watch something I've seen already I don't need to redownload it and there is no risk of the links being down or the torrent no longer being seeded.

Because people don't like paying for streaming services. They'd rather buy hard drives than use the internet as their backup.

Personally, I keep stuff for about 6 months and then do a clean/delete. The reason ........ I have other people that watch things at a way slower pace than I do.

I stopped backing up movies, when I stopped buying spindles.

Seriously, anyone that has time to rewatch a movie, has waaayyy to much time on their hands.

Maybe its because Im a father and do events like triathlons. But now days Id rather hit the pool at my gym or walk my dog now days or better play with my boy.

There is just no time for movies.

I did set up XBMC, to try and see whats out there, but as I said there is no time.

I don't have dogs or children. Even with a balanced lifestyle, gym, going out, etc.

I still find time to watch movies every now and than.

Just get hulu and netflix. I keep some stuff because I have friends and relatives who suffer from internetlessness.

Have to agree, this is the route I took recently as well. Having annoying connection issues at the moment but I trust it will be resolved soon :-(

1. To avoid this : just download it again
2.Because im a hoarder by nature?

I cant bring myself to delete 1080p copies of movies even though il prob never watch them again, but if push comes to shove then i delete.

Thing is you don't have to buy streaming services, you can just download whatever you need again in future if you need it unless you are really impatient and can't wait for the download to finish.

I keep quite a few things because there are always people asking me for stuff. Even old stuff.

Yeah I honestly don't understand this.

Especially people who refer to their hoard of pirated crap as their "collection".

It's not a collection unless you paid for it and it's got some collectible value. Pirated crap on a hard drive is worth nothing.

So is my teddy bear but I'll kill you over it...

It's all subjective. I know scores of people that spent thousands on dvd collections only for it to be antiquated & low quality compared to whats available now.

I have some stuff "hoarded", a helluva lot smaller than some peoples raid arrays etc etc but if there was a streaming service for movies, music, series and it was trivially cheap I might consider it but bandwidth would have to be sufficient to give me the same experience I get with my pirated collection. I'm stuck on an iffy 4mb line.

I'm quite bad at remembering movie titles etc so a "watched indicator" has a lot of value for me. I currently submit stuff to trakt but it's not quite as useful as I'd like.

The value in a "collection" to me is not the fact that you downloaded it but the amount of time it took you to "find" it all, in two parts, finding something you actually like and finding a good quality download etc. Now with sabnzbd, couchpotato, sickbeard, headphones a lot of effort is taken out in finding good downloads but you still have to source what you will enjoy.

Netflix does everything you mentioned above.
