[Hoax:] Iburst bandwidth doubled at no extra charge

I didnt mean the face of the website with those advertised prices in the pics.. it's if you try to open the products pages then for me it just doesnt come up.
Well they dont say anything about the hardcapping so it would be real sneaky to just hardcap every one without informing them, i dont really think it will happen... just to bad to actually believe, anyway i'd rather have 6gigs that 3 and sofcap, cause i usually only use like 4-6 anyway. But i know most of you would disagree. The 12gig package is loking pretty nice at the moment, yet now whats the point of the 9(18)gig if there is to be no shaping anyway? They should up that package more cause you pay a hell of alot for it!

Oh and they didnt really say that the port shaping will only come into effect on 1 Dec, they said it wil "no longer" be shaped, could this mean we are already unshaped? Anyone tested yet?

I'll try tomorrow. Do any old-timers remember the days before iburst introduced shaping. Oh that was pure bliss. I would max my line out downloading torrents at 1mpbs. Oh, and that was when their cap was broken too :D

The increased BW and non-shaping seems to confirm fears of hard capping...

Or WBS is just tired of trying to fix things...

Sounds like good times... I also checked though so dont break a sweat.. ur torrents will fly at like 5kb or 0kb in my case as per usual.
But wait i kinda love WBS right now so all is forgiven

That shaping system they really did seem to mess with things, but I think the problem was more contention than anything else. The way the iburst signal distrubution works, unless you are one of the closest ppl or within a tolerable range (arial improves this) you get bad results

I regret to say that a (very reliable) source has stated that this was NOT a valid email from WBS, and that they are trying to find out where it came from and who sent it. I will update when I know more. As I said in original posting ..."Is this for real?"

Maybe they where just testing to see whether people would be happy with the new deal, or whether they should rework it.

this news is exciting and very true.

i will believe it when i see it on iburst.co.za or when i pass 3gb in december and still have good speeds...

i dont see how a company can make an announcement like that without their sales people not knowing the truth or not and their site not refelcting this...

there is the 'you never know factor' but if this does happen i will be thouroughly impressed along with others...

i personally think this is a rumour.

AAArrrHHHgg someone please clear this up.. it made me so happy! Now i'm like sad again...
But it's been on a reseller website and apparently a helpdesk employee confirmed it??
Sihen, you talking about the 1Dec being true.. why so shure about it?

agreed. this kind of thing they would definately post on the website... however i think the october firmware update might be interesting.

maybe it will allow 2mb speeds ?

nope nothing on their site suggest that this is on... yet as everyone mentioned with that email it does seem like hard cap is on and no more 64k :( that will be sad new indeed... although I fail to see why wbs would comply with telkom's hard cap seeing as UUNET supplies their own bw no?
But it is true that UUNET buys bandwidth from telkom tho or there's some sorta agreement that UUNET can use the SAT3 cable... damn too many maybe's... lets all do some staticatical calculation here... from a normal distribution it is safe to say if the T score is < the calculated value we fail to reject that wbs will hard cap...
else we will reject that wbs will hard cap...

Someone at telkom hacked into the mail server and sent that msg to everyone on wbs's mailing list using wbs's name and giving us the big F#$% @$$holes for sticking with iburst...
BTW maybe it's a conspiricy!

Marketing gone awry

Seems to me like this announcement was prematurely released to the public. It stinkss of marketing miscommunication all over.

The mail was probably supposed to only go to distributors or partners, informing them of the plan.

At least I hope that's the plan...
