Howzit Ladies and Gents,

Hope you can help a guy out here, I do realize that this is short notice, but i want to go to Capetown for 6nights, either 30th Dec to the 5th Jan or 2nd to 7th Jan..

with my last minute decision making im thinking with regards to getting reasonable or getting any bookings at all the 2nd to the 7th might be a better idea.

I have no idea about Capetown, where the hot spots are(proper restaurants, chilled bars, civil night clubs), no idea where to stay in relation to these. I would also like to do the wine estate visits and such. I will be hiring a car(hopefully something sexy)

so what i would like to know from you are these:

1. Where are Hot Spots in Capetown?
2. Where are Accommodation in relation to the hotspots, i dont mind a 10/15min drive. Hotel or BnB is fine.
3. Car Hire? anyone know any places, preferably a convertible, but not necessary.
4. Definite must Dos whilst in Capetown?
5. Any other useful information.

Safety is a concern, so no dodgy places, besides im travelling alone. thanks in advance.

Took my GF to CT for her birthday earlier this year, around Jan also . I only booked flights and accommodation in December so you should be fine.

1.Loop street was were all the parties were at, V&A waterfront, Grand West casino, Canal walk shopping mall.
2.We stayed at a little B&B called Bokaap Lodge, it was a pleasant experience at a decent price. 5 minutes from the city centre, 15 minutes from the V&A and Table mountain.
3.I used a car hire company called drive south Africa, I got a really good rate and they sourced a car from Budget car hire for me which I collected and dropped off at the airport.
4.Definietly visit Table Mountain, Cape Point ,drive through Chapmans peak, visit Camps bay beach, old bis. Loads more places that I cant think of right now.

The place is just amazing, I didn't have any trouble with safety but just be careful in the city centre.

Delft, Lavender Hill and Manenburg are very nice.

Also check out places in Dunoon - nice and close to Century City

Im actually flying down on Sunday to CT for a week break away with the gf. Iv only been to CT once on holiday before so really looking forward to this little break away.
But from my experience CT can be very costly but all depending where you go.

1. Places i really enjoyed going out was Cafe Caprice (camps Bay) sundowners is a must! St Yves club, Shimmys beach club, The Grand V&A (not like the one in jozie to all you joburgers ) Long street in CT.
2. Im staying in a self catering apartment in Camps Bay for a few nights then heading to Summerset west.
3. Iv got a audi A3 convertible through Avis for about 5.8k for the week but remember the deposit is what kills you, gotta be able to put a 19k holding deposit down on your credit card when u pickup the car. (always get the super waiver option, your deposit is always less)
4. Camps bay, Table Mountain, Chapmans peak , HoutBay, Stellies, Go visit a wine farm, checkout http://www.citysightseeing.co.za/

Cape Town is mad during that time. I agree with Sam, Feb is better.

Whats your budget?

6 nights really quite short, try for 10 days or so there is a hell of a lot to do and see here.

If you are from SA I wouldn't worry about safety, same applies everywhere. CT CBDis probably the only CBD in the country that is not suicidal to go to.

thanks for the responses thus far,

i have mixed feelings now...about will it be too busy? and everything else that goes with it. hmmmm i dont know know. You guys might be right.

budget wise i was thinking:

Flights(Durban) / accommodation :10k (5/6 nights depending on rates)
Car hire as per lumpyza : 6k
Food and attractions : +-10??

so you guys think i should wait until i can spend more time there...?? if i go in Jan i could possibly do another trip in july/august i dont mind the cold..

september is a good time get to see whales

you do see whales in july aug but weather is kark

but feb-april is much cheaper

you can look on groupon and stuff for accomodation

flights in dec/jan im sure will be like R5k

accomodation yeah around 1k+ per night

in feb you will spend way less than that

I was in Cape-Town in August and in 10 days i couldn't see everything i wanted to see.

W.R.T car hire, check Kulula's website where you get the Flight and Car hire together, i found it was better priced than booking them apart.

I also wouldn't go in Dec/Jan, but then again I am not mad about Tourists.

Definitely take the Open bus tour from the V&A waterfront http://www.citysightseeing.co.za/ It's awesome! Really worth it in my opinion. Just check that if you catch the last bus that it takes you to your last destination, i got stuck in the City Centre and had to walk back to the V&A waterfront.

I have a Word Document with all the things i wanted to do while in Cape-Town that i can send to you if you want.

i have sent a few emails.. to a few guest lodges in the City Bowl area, lets see what they come back with...

Why not catch one of the millions of cabs around, or even better, a MyCiti bus?

I am wary of anything saying "taxi", i am from pretoria after all, and i have ABSOLUTELY no idea how to call a taxi, but at least it was a 15min walk which wasn't too life threatening.

I never got a myciti card, but i will DEFINITELY get one next time.

thanks alot guys.

Im almost there.. Flights and accommodation sorted. Car hire is whats giving me a problem.. i mean i didnt expect it to be cheap but prices im getting are boarder line ludacris...

Honestly... you will be lucky to get a car that time of year. My parents came down around that time and they just used my car.

So I rate its a lot cheaper to just catch a cab to the city and use the myCiti and a service like Uber.

Sure its not as glam but trying to fight your way round CT in a rental over Christmas is not going to be fun. Also... remember roadblocks

yeah i need to get a quote from them... an a3 convertible will suffice.. nothing to fancy...

i do get what your saying. but my dates have been confirmed for the 2-9 Jan.. im hoping that will be easier, plus some of the activities i want to do would require a car..
