What is the general feeling on Owl Energy Monitors ?
Useful and decent?

Smartkit is getting samples shortly and it looks pretty decent, specifically the Intuition http://www.theowl.com/index.php/owl-intuition/

Although I'm not technical, I'm thinking this part could appeal :

OWL Intuition Internet connected energy monitoring and heating control products are able to push collected data in near real time both on the LAN and WAN for value added third party logging and data analysis etc. Additionally, it is possible to configure and control the system. These features are standard on all OWL Intuition products (Network OWL firmware version 2.1 onwards)

I can't answer, but I do have the Efergy monitors and I'm a bit annoyed that the hub can only take 5 sensors - and if you get a second hub you can't link it to the same account/dashboard to get an overall view. So it's ok for monitoring a few thing, but not a solution for everything.

Wonder if the OWL has the same limits.

For though building their own garage door openers.

I still think opengarage is worth the money to be honest.

Nothing in there that warrants me upgrading my setup.

What I have been wondering however is how I could go about adding two magnetic sensors. One for fully open and one for fully closed.

Anyone done that?

Shouldn't be too difficult - but I guess it would depend on your garage door, I have one magnetic sensor for open/close.
 
So this past weekend i setup a sonoff single switch for our lounge lights as a tester for us to play with. Wired it up, powered it on, linked to the app, flicked the switch and nothing happened. Pressed the touch button, app detected the change, nothing happened with the light.
Only thing I could determine that was happening was there was a loud click from in the sonoff.
I'm returning it - figuring it's a fault in it. But I was wondering if anyone has encountered similar?

And yes, the light did have working bulbs. The normal switch once wired back in worked perfectly.

Yeah the thing is my sensor now sits at the "open" position. Meaning the moment it leaves that it's considered closed but there is no actual way of telling if it ever fully closed.

So having one at the fully closed position would guarantee that. Sure I can just move the current sensor down there but I figured for a truly accurate status one at each end would make more sense.

Was the normal switch on? If it clicked that's the relay turning on so I can only think there is a problem down the wire elsewhere.

Guess it could be broken internally just beyond the relay which would need a volt meter to test.

Yes, same wires with the normal switch worked.

Wired in the sonoff - click - no light.
Put the normal switch back in, light turned on.

So you removed the switch and put the Sonoff in it's place? Not any kind of special light that has some controller in the switch maybe?

Nope, nothing I am aware of.

The "normal switch" is one of the cheapest acdc brand single switch. It's literally just a circuit on/off nothing special at all.

Would make more sense to know that its fully closed, and for any other position to report as open though wouldn't it? and be simpler than having to get a report off 2 different sensors..

Yes, simpler.

But wouldn't help towards the need to tinker and figure out the logic for getting it done with two of them. :)

Also since this garage door has in fact ****ed out a few times the past year due to various issues in my particular case knowing it's tuck in NoMansLand might be real-world useful.

Yeah if you have a voltmeter handy you could test the Basic but if not just return it.

This is a Basic right?
