Has anyone setup LED strip lights with a fade on and fade off function? If you have want did you use to get this to work and is it possible to configure the time it takes to fade on or off?

I have not done this myself, but i rememeber reading about using it with Home Assistant.
What lights and automation platform are you currently running?
 
The ones in my kitchen have the functionality in their app - but it's also programmable in Home Assistant

I have 5m of waterproof strip lights for my aquarium but want to get them to fade on and fade off. They are already on the sonoff relay with a schedule. The strip lights spec says they are dimmable but i am struggling to figure out how to make this possible. I did find a small board that can do this from Europe but i want to try find a solution locally.

I think as xrapidx says, the light controller will have to do the dimming. The Sonoff won't be able to control that.
I previously read up about using esp8266 boards to control LED Light strips. The boards are locally available and it seems like quite a fun project to take one.

Thanks for the help. Seems the Shelly devices are coming in soon and i might get one of the LED controllers which has all the functionality i'm looking for. :) Shelly for the WIN!

Yeah, decided to go with zigbee2mqtt. Apparently its super stable and easy to setup.

The sniffer boards etc arrived today, so going to try find time this weekend to play with it.

Home Assistant allows for this.

So yes I’ve done it with my Yeelight strips.

Get a Philips Hue Bridge. Buy a Zigbee controller (Gledopto brand) from AliExpress or Gearbest, hook it up to your light strip and then you can add the light in the Philips Hue app. Then set your custom fade in/out routines, and voice activation commands with Alexa or setup with Homekit.

Nothing beats Philips Hue for lights, and fortunately it supports a lot of cheaper LED brands. You can use any CW/WW/RGW/RGBW/RGBCCT light strip.

Of the cheaper brands the Shelly bulb has turned out to be the best, so far. Not sure how it compares to the Hue.

My smart bulbs are a mix of Philips Hue, INNR, Osram, Gledopto GU10s, and Gledopto RGBCCT lightstrips.

The Gledopto RGBCCT lightstrips are brilliant quality and brightness and are dirt cheap. You don't need a Philips Hue gateway to use their lights, but it gives the combo of the most user friendly + most customisable features. Osram is the worst of the lot.

It’s exactly the Eco system and the requirement for a hub that makes it a little irritating.
