You can either use the Inject node, or install bigtimer. There's also a Delay function.

Okay maybe I should have explained.

In this case I would need to time the state so that "if off for 1 hour, turn on" as I currently do in HA directly.

Not sure if that inject would do the job as it's time specific but good to know that's there for other things. Delay I'm also not sure would work as cleanly but I guess I could make it check again after an hour and then flip the switch.

Guides and such seem to suggest a built in Timer (literally called that) which is simply not there for me.

I installed a addon called contrib-timerswitch

I would call that a scheduler, not a timer.

I'm looking at this in particular....

Check under Lighting 2 : Motion Timer.

Alternatively how would I "time" the state of my aquarium pump to automatically put it back on after 1 hour of being off?

Have a node in the flow that do something when the state of the pump switch change. If it changes to off, then start a "delay" (its in milliseconds) then send an on.
Delay function looks almost like that 20min timer.

I'm sure there will be many more coming.

In fact I'll likely save myself the real pain and trauma and just post my HA Automations here to get you guys to "translate" them for me.

I'm sure after doing a few I'll know my way around.

Maybe have a look at the Wait Until or Poll State nodes that are part of the HA suite.

My daughter is 5 years old so can't really use her mobile phone status (has no SIM) or anything like that to detect when home or not.

So wanted to do some automation based on her lack of presence, like have the heated panels not go on if she's not home etc.

There’s probably a few ways or products you could use to do this. I would install an ip camera (I have hikvision) in the area and set up motion detection. I would then use for example, hikvision binary sensor which presents the camera events to Home Assistant as binary sensors with either an “off” or “on” state. you could then control whatever based on motion in the area and also view the camera feed to check on your daughter. There are probably a lot of ways to detect motion though.

Yeah I realised that is the most logical approach, but would like to keep cameras out of the house as far as possible.

Can't you just replace the paradox control panel? They're not that expensive.

Could you not perhaps, either with the mac address or a fixed ip , "see" when she joins the network? I assume the wifi is on on the device.

Edit- like this perhaps? https://community.openhab.org/t/why-not-mac-address-based-device-identification/45465
Lots of arguing but concept is there, there are guys that have done it on a pi and in a round about way on an ESP.

Sorry should have said that being a 5 year old the phone doesn’t go anywhere.

It’s basically docked on the bedside table in perpetuity and sometimes wanders around.

Reckon it will be a great many years before she gets to roam with a phone a SIM card.

I can do the phone defection happily with HomeKit in that case.

Why can't I get this Shelley to pick up. All the wiring looks fine, works fine at the switch but cannot discover the device.

Do I have to bridge L and 1?

Short of getting an RFID implant, it is very difficult to do presence detection on a child.
The best option is to watch her habits. Put a tilt sensor in her favourite doll, a motion sensor through her doorway, pressure sensor on her chair/bed, etc. Then define these as trackers for person X in Home Assistant so that the combined results define if she is home.
