Home Automation - Smartkit

@phaktza you were on the money.

So I temporarily solved me fridge issue by getting the POW to run it on a timer, 10min for every hour... see how it goes, not ideal though.

How can I set a Sonoff Basic to switch on at a predefined point after power has been restored? For example: Eskom/muni restores power after blackout, switch waits x minutes then applies power to output. I'm trying to delay powering up the fridge etc for a few minutes, until supply has stabilized.

I'm hopeful that it can be done using the countdown or inching settings, but those settings do my head in. Maybe a scene that references another switch?

I use the eWeLink app, Sonoff switches with stock firmware, and IFTTT.

I understand this can be with Home Assistant and Tasmota but I'm trying to stay stock.

I've mostly used Fibaro for my home automation needs. I have a friend that wants home automation done for his 75sqm apartment and looking for the most cost effective way.

What would you guys suggest for this apartment - @Dolby @phaktza

Lights to be controlled:
Lounge
Kitchen
Bedroom 1
Bedroom 2
En-suite
General bathroom
Patio
RGBW strip behind TV or TV unit

Are the Mini's able to control 2 physical switches or only 1? i.e. If there is a 3 gang switch what would I use?

Will be installing 1 x UniFi AP AC-LR for the WiFi
Google Home or Alexa for voice
1 x Apple TV 4K

Thanks
Just away at the moment. Will reply next week.

I think you're only posting here to show off that awesome fridge

:D

Pity it fell over from phone to forum.

Oddly enough, was selling my old G&C fridge on facebook - and then this one popped up... so we bought it.

Still wondering what's going to happen to it as its not part of the January renovations (why we were selling the original - as the bar is coming out)

Managed to sort this out - the loop timer does the trick.

Under Setting, set Power-on response for the switch to OFF
Under Loop timer>Cycle, select delay period - I used 3 minutes - and set Start Action to ON
Deselect After
Enable the timer with the switch at the bottom
Hit confirm, back out and test

I have a similar issue with a Bosch fridge I picked up second hand. Chap sold it cheap as the board was fried and we just installed a bypass thermostat. Problem is, it doesn't work 100% even at its most sensitive setting and we still have to defrost the fridge every few weeks.

I wonder if I couldn'r wire a sonoff temp sensor in the place of the thermostat but that works by switching the mains or can it send a signal impulse?

My Bosch is on it's third board and when this one packs up it is Gone! They are not cheap.
I have however given a lot of thought to running it off a pi or some other controller, so if you could get that to work I would be very interested.
As to the defrosting something tells me( I'm not sure if somebody told me or if I read it somewhere) that the compressor does a reverse cycle when it has to a defrost and that is why after these power outages it gets confused (if it hasn't nailed the board .) So perhaps that's why you have to defrost it manually.

Is a great fridge though and seems silly to have such a problem make it go to waste. We eat a lot of fresh produce so actual fridge space is critical, got a chest freezer for frozen foods. If i put the temp sonnoff against the mains, just wondering if that going on and off is not going to kill the compressor or other circuits.

That reverse cycle makes sense. It would need something more complex than a thermostat switch to tell the compressor to operate in reverse. Maybe the thermostat is actually working correctly but without the reverse, its not defrosting it enough when the temp drops. Before the thermostat, it used to ice everything :liquids, food, you name it. Now it's just a buildup against the back plane.

With smarts starting to be built into some fridges, I would suggest first google if there is a way to reset your fridge before doing anything further.

Anybody using Samsung Smart Things hub?

If yes, any tips ito cameras, lights and locks to use with it?

Ordered from Amazon today and want to use Google Assistant with it.

Hi

Does anybody know if the Samsung Smartthings hub v3 works in South Africa. By this I mean you can buy it from Amazon.co.uk so that you get the correct Z-Wave frequency and then set the hub in SA. I have read on 1 site that they block the location this can be setup from.

Has anybody bought this and setup from scratch in SA.
Thanks
Any tips lessons learnt?

Just bought the hub gen 3. After considering the wifi hub and hub gen 2.

Will use it mainly for speakers lights and one day when I have money ... locks.

Cameras ... too expensive ...

Edit and of course plugs and monitoring electricity.

Edit update decided to cancel my Amazon order.

Might just as well stick to Google directly as I prefer wifi devices.

You should have received a notification on HA which once opened, would be a captcha puzzle for you to enter to complete the verification.

Maybe post your log here.
So finally managed to take a look again.
Got the captcha puzzle, authenticated and now i have the echo dot media player entities.

When i ask Alexa to switch anything on, it just says it cannot find that device :(

So right now i can control Alexa using HA, but can't control HA using Alexa :(

You need to get Alexa to search for your devices.
