I already have the camera notification setup for my front beam. People even mock me now and say HA sends me cat pics.

But yeah sending an image is epic, makes it so much easier to know what is going on.

I kinda want to do the same when someone trigger the door bell/intercom. Not sure how I will do that yet but it will be brilliant.

Only difference is, I used Slack. See: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/home-automation-smartkit.909279/post-25561479
I just have a cheap 433mhz door bell, when it's pushed, I get a notification on my phone via the HA app - as well as a message to Telegram, both also give me an option to open the door.

Same camera also does motion... For people loitering around my door.

Why not just use the HA notify feature. Goes straight to your home screen. Mine now notified when the gate opens waiting for my camera to come so that I can do the picture as well

Can even set up toggles.

That's what I said, via the HA app? Mine also go to Telegram so I have the history.

Do you use Slack to chat to people in the household?
Nope. But it's nice having different of notifications in different channels and me and wife already have slack for work so it's just another workspace instead of an app.

Have that but don't like it, no history available on these notifications.

I use them as I find them more convienent than Telegram - but - I also send the stuff to Telegram for "backup"

Another nice feature, I have a Gallery in HA of previous doorbell/motion events. (you can see previous videos and pictures)

These have to be IP based Cameras right? If you have DVR with just RG59, cameras , it's a no go? My DVR supports IP cameras so in my future, perhaps just replace the outside ones with IP and do the same (hopefully)

Really cool implementations, you chaps have !

Mine are currently just IP camera's - I've ordered a cheapie NVR - so want to see whats possible, I've noticed HA starts taking strain with many camera's connected.

Does the DVR have network connectivity?

You should be able to get an RTSP stream from the DVR for the cameras

Anyone here using node-red in a docker container? Thinking of going that way before getting to far down the automations route...

I am using it in hassio for the more complex automations. The simple stuff I still have in home assistant.

Any benefit NodeRed has over doing it in code?

For me specifically the benefit is NOT doing it in code.

But at the same time I do believe it has a lot more functionality or at least make it easier to do many things than directly in HA but I’m not an expert.

Of course it also can integrate with other things if you were to get that hardcore.
