I am currently using 2 x Shelly 1PM devices, 1 on a 3Kw 150L geyser and 1 on a 2Kw 150L geyser(I changed the element from 3 to 2). Both have been working well so far the 3Kw geyser actually pulls 2780watts and the 2Kw pulls around 1700w, I only run them during the day as I have a grid tied solar system with no batteries, so make use of the solar power to heat the geysers. Might look at a Shelly EM to measure when I have excess solar to heat the geysers.

Hi guys,
A few questions I'm hoping the members could help me with.
I bought a few smart home elements from Sonoff - 3 gang wall switch, a dual for my outdoor lights and two dimmers for my lounge.
Well, the D1 Dimmers are terrible, they don't switch off and have a mind of their own.
The 3 gang and the dual haven't put a foot wrong.
I'm looking to gut my current Sonoff system and move to Shelly.
Questions though that I have that apply to both Shelly and Sonoff are...
1. Once I've installed the system do I need to have an electrician update my CoC? What are the rough rules around this?
2. If my house burns down, will insurance payout, or is this a convenient loophole for the Satam's of the world?
3. Are there any other regulations around this? - I help my neighbor install a 3 gang Sonoff wall switch, am I now somehow liable?

first thing to mention (i might be wrong here) but the shelly stuff is not "approved" to be used in SA, whereas some of the sonoff stuff actually is.

How do you guys make led strip lights fade in/out instead of hard on/off?
I'm mounting led strip lights on top of old pelmets for indirect lighting to illuminate my living room, and want that elegant fade in fade out effect without breaking the bank or building a mainframe.
I've seen fade-in fade-out dimmers for sale on Amazon, but nothing locally. I've also seen some built their own circuit boards.
Any alternative suggestion?

Are your LED strips mains powered? If so, you not going to be able to get hem to do what you want

Shelly relays and bulbs are approved in South Africa.
Most notable is Shelly EM being widely used in mining and renewable energy applications.

Equipment without a motor is resistive load where as with motor its inductive load. So should be fine for a geyser.

It should be fine as a geyser is a resistive load - the element is essentially a very large resistor
Motors are the most typically inductive load in a house, but electronics are typically an inductive load too. That's why you can't really say a router uses 1A @12V thus 12W - that equation only works for resistive loads.
But yeah, stoves, ovens, and geysers are the most common resistive loads in your house and safe to use the W = V * I equation.
Tracker states for geyser tracking:Seems the R119 is if you pay the once off installation fee? Could include installation but doubt it.
R119 p.m on a 36 months contract on a free installation.
OR
R89 p.m on a month to month with R2500 installation fee .

I am actually looking at buying it. I like that it has local certifications, which is what is making me edge to getting it for the geysers and having it in the DB.

Hi @ Tinuva.
Shelly EM will also fit into a dB board and is certified for installation and use in South Africa.
Similarly with Shelly 1 PM, yet limited to a contact of 16 amps.
