Home Automation - Smartkit

The wifi irrigation works flawlessly in Smart Life app.

But does not get detected by Google Home.

Have delinked and re-linked via Google Home itself and via Smart Life app link to Google Home.

Not a crisis as simply forfeiting voice control, which is hardly necessary.
 
Cant seem to find Tuya/Smart Life app soil moisture sensors. Even Banggood and Gearbest and AliBaba express. Plus AB Express crazy shipping!

Anybody able to guide in the right direction of a local seller?
 
At this rate will be forced to go HA route! Or a smart home hub eg hubitat or Samsung Smartthings

Hi @patrick123, how is the anti-dog bark working for you? I am looking to build/set something up to attempt to get my neighbours useless yorkie to shut up, any advice?
 
Any advice guys, looking to replace my alarm (my control panel/keypad is old as days and has issues) with something that is able to connect to home assistant super easy and see zone information and alarm status etc.

dont want to murder the bank account too much.

thoughts, and also opinions on something like konnect alarms or maybe a paradox system?
I wont be replacing any of the wired sensors i currently have.

I have a Paradox MG5050 panel and it integrates very well to Home Assistant via PAI (Paradox alarm interface). I personally use the Serial over IP connection option with an ESP8266 chip connected to the serial headers.

Bit of a mission to get registered but as the official distributor won’t get them cheaper anywhere else.
 
I'm a big fan of Aqara.
bought some of the more expensive stuff on Takealot (Hub / Camera).
For the volume items, door sensors, temperature sensors I am a patient man and use Aliexpress.
Will need to check out the Miro option mentioned above.
 
Hi all, I need some SMART IRRIGATION advise please.

I have a RPI4 running home assistant, a basic setup, only controlling a few lights and fans, still a lot to do and work in progress for some future projects.

I am however leaving for Australia to visit family and friends for a duration of 5 weeks. Leaving in about 4 weeks time. I don't have anyone that can water my most precious plants. I was thinking to move all of them into a specific area and just have some type of smart water irrigation for the interim. Obviously proper irrigation using home assistant is still on my list of things to do in the future, but it is still a bit off and I need something for the interim to manage the 5 weeks.

I need something that can be used with timer purposes, potentially home assistant integration so that I can view the status remotely, it would be great if there could be some type of backup that can cut water off if the sprinkler does not cut off or if the automation fails. It can be very temporary, just to get through the 5 weeks, hopefully not costing too much money. I have not explored smart irrigation systems at all. Is there any advise or guidance on something small and simple that I could do? Maybe a basic sonoff switch with a solenoid valve (also not sure how they work either, I assume two electrical wires to either open or close the valve). Or is it better getting something like a rainbird for future expansion? What would be the best approach? Does rainbird integrate with home assistant, does it have a backup cut off, can you add solenoid valves and expand in the future, etc?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Jassis Alexa can be dumb as a brick sometimes. How people think it’s better than HomeKit is beyond me when it can’t get basic **** right like turning the device in the same room off with a part of its name.

It makes the naming convention idiotic too as you now need to include the room name in the device name because it’s not context aware enough to figure it out.

HomeKit being properly room aware if I say turn off the light in the same room as the HomePod it just does the thing. Alexa goes “I don’t know wtf you want from me”.

Also I can’t believe the Echo Glow doesn’t show up as a trigger for an automation…how ****ing ridiculous to purposely leave this out when available for every other thing.

It’s also enough to make me pay for Nabu Casa just to automate them.

... because people look at a product holistically and not one or features ?

On a serious note - that's a cool feature & something I've wanted with Alexa for years. How good is are the overlaps and if you have two HomePods too close to either other ? ie The furthest HomePods over hears you and switcheas on/off that light instead ?

I'm using the Rainbird controller and it's really rock solid.

I've probably had it 4 or 5 years and the integrations always work. I've never needed a backup just incase the automation forgets to switch off or doesn't work . I don't use HA - but I'm doubtful whether it can be integrated. It can be integrated into Alxea ... overseas though :mad: If Amazon services are available here, I'm not sure why Rainbird decide to limit .

The negatives are it's a bit 'old' and clunky. The interface isn't the best - but it's functional. It gets the job done & never let me down . I've got a rain sensor on my roof that also switches off the automations when it detects local rainfall, so the sprinklers aren't going to run during wet weather. It has auto seasonal adjust as well & it changes the length of time to irrigate based on seasons and weather like temperature & humidity. You can add the soil types etc and something else changes (haven't really used it as I don't really care that much ...)
