Thanks for all the info, very useful. So if you were to do it again, would you stick with the Xiaomi?
Battery life?
Why 2 hubs?

Yes, they are cheap but effective and for the price works very well.

You might not want to use it for an alarm system though. I'm still deciding whether I should get something more traditional-alarm.

I needed two gateways since the range to my gates outside was too far for the gateway I have inside. So the second is in my garage. Home assistant and the Xiaomi Mi Home app works fine with two gateways.

I used a door/window sensor and put it into a waterproof box with a bigger industrial reed switch, so I can detect if my sliding gates outside are opened. Works very well.

Its the older RGB silver finned heatsink ones. Not like the newer smooth gold and silver ones on smartkit.co.za

I do recall that synching them was an issue, but it worked eventually. It's unlikely you'll have more than one failure - could have something to do with your wifi that it doesn't agree with?

Anyone ever had any experiences with Sonoff switches burning out, setting alight, etc...?
Just thinking now, replacing switches with T1s without really knowing what the odds are of these things catching fire.

Full test reports here.

ITEAD, unlike many Chinese manufacturers, build quality products.

Just to let everyone know:

- We're flashing Tasmota on devices by request
- We have stock of the Sonoff T1 AU/US

How much do you charge for the service and where are you located please?

I have 5-6 sonoff basic units; have flashed 1 without problem (using the USB programmer and atom), got stuck on the second one, and just never got anything done with the remaining units as life got in the way, so it would be good to flash them all.....

Howzit, we're in the Randburg area - we're charging R15 a device to flash. Generally the intention is they arrived pre-flashed once you've purchase, but I can assist in after sales flashing for the MyBB people!

Maybe something to investigate with ITEAD if you are ordering enough quantity to see if they couldn't possibly flash TASMOTA onto the devices at the factory?

Wow just wanted to add my 2c and say this is a great service. Previously i bought my Sonoffs at Communica simply because I was there, but this would make me reconsider.

My internet access was dodge yesterday, had issues with DNS and packet loss. It's been resolved now but it seems my T1 isn't connected yet. WiFi light is still flashing.

I can see it on my DHCP client list (ESP_407FFB is the only device that doesn't look familiar, so think it's that).

What are the best steps to troubleshoot and reconnect?

Edit: Also, does the sonoff device have a web interface of sorts I can browse to to check/manage anything?

Has anyone used Yeti for Tasmota devices? Rather than setting up an entire dedicated MQTT server?
