And this is why we flash ;)

Haha! That's just what I was about to reply.

Tasmota has an awesome web interface on each device.

EDIT: I believe you can also access the terminal via the network.

Ah you guys... guess I'll have to flash everything then!
Will first play with the flashed basic to see how I come along.

So any ideas how I can sort this out? Remove the device and re-add it in ewelink?

I'd imagine you need to reset it somehow. Ordinarily, I'd say power cycle. Not sure how you do that with a wall switch. Reset the CB maybe?

Maybe something to investigate with ITEAD if you are ordering enough quantity to see if they couldn't possibly flash TASMOTA onto the devices at the factory?

How many companies do you know that would rather put someone else's stuff on their product.

I count zero.

Having dealt with a few chinese manufacturers and most of them were very happy to load custom firmware/software IF the volume ordered was sufficient to justify it to them.

I was looking at a few hundred devices a year at the time.. but the number would ultimately depend on the volume etc of the manufacturer and how flexible they are....

Really? That's excessive for a bit of fish tape and a join!

Between that kinda pricing and electricians that don’t know what a neutral wire is.. I’m truly at a loss and think I’m in the wrong business.

For a guy to come out for a single switch, I'd say its not too excessive. Callout fee's down here seem to be in the region of R600.

Maybe ask for a quote on doing multiple switches?

I've been through a dozen electricians in the last year... couldn't say I recommend any.

Had an awesome guy who moved to Natal to farm. Why JJ? WHY?

I'm also struggling to find a decent, well priced local guy. Have one guy but he's always busy and usually he sends his workers.

Lights not on earth leakage? Just connect the neutral to the ground of the socket. Guaranteed CoC failure, possible tingly feelings when you touch the switch, but it will probably work :D
