Most of my lights are controlled from either a 2 gang, 3 gang or 4 gang light switch.

I want to control them with as little hardware and wiring as possible.

So which Sonoff is best for the 2 and 3 gang switches?

And for the 4x basics, I'll need one neutral wire to drive each one? If so, I'll rather get a 4CH.

I personally like the new T1s, they allow you to control your lights manually even if wifi/internet/ewelink is down.
If you do 4 x basics, if they are next to each other in the roof you just daisy chain them together.

Dual for 2, 4ch for 3. Unless you want a physical light switch.

Just remember, if you're putting these in the ceiling, that if you manually break the circuit on your existing "physical" light switch you will cut all power to the Sonoffs and lose control.

Eish.

I basically want a setup where I can control the lights manually at the physical switch or via Z-wave (Home Assistant). The Sonoff route sounds like automations will only work if the physical switch is in the "on" position. That seems inflexible to me.

Even though the Sonoffs are cheap, I'm thinking going with either an Aeon Nano Switch or Fibaro Switch, I think these will allow control of the lights irrespective of what position the manual light switch is in. Only thing is I'll have to buy a z-wave controller.

I plan on doing THIS setup this weekend, anyone have any experience they'd like to share? :whistling:

Going to start with a sonoff basic and if I like it then I'll do this with the T1s too. I may just ship back my T1s to SmartKit to flash - I don't see myself doing that myself - seems like a mission. I'm sure you guys would be kind enough to flash it for me for a small fee?

Watch the Dr ZZs video's and the Bruh Automation videos (as irritating as his voice is).

This is only because of the lack of neutral cable in SA light switches - this will apply for any product requiring a neutral - this may include the Fibaro (the Aeon Nano might have a trickle feed for the live - just be careful of the wrong bulbs that might flicker). If you have a neutral in your switch you can either link the existing switch to the GPIO or use a Sonoff T1.

Well the neutrals - not the lives!

Hmmmm given the missus's aversion to "home automation"... I am gonna have to investigate using sonoffs in the ceiling and wiring in the standard switches....

Must get this right in my head before I go down this road...

1 x 1 gang and 1 x 3 gang left, placing another order today!

Sorry, just want to make sure I don't have things mixed up.

T1 needs neutral and can be controlled from HA and manually?

If so, I'll take 1x 1 gang for playing around with for now.

The T1 can be controlled manually yip, so even if wifi goes down then you still have a manual switch.
Out the box it works with ewelink app, HA will require flashing.

And yes, requires neutral
