Better than the ****ty analog timer I had - kept loosing time - and obviously doesn't keep time when the power dies.

I'll get to it eventually - but I want it setup that it only runs with certain weather conditions (i.e. it doesn't run the pump when its overcast/raining)

If you actually want to test the app before you place the order, you can buy a relatively inexpensive Slampher. Zero install and the same features, so you can double check its the right solution / any issues.

I would classify R280 for a POW unit to be relatively inexpensive when a timer for the pool starts at R800 these days. :)

But where would I get that Slampher unit from and for what price?

It's essentially the Sonoff mainboard in this zero install package - just screw in to an existing E27 socket to make it smart. You can see all the features and get a feel for the eWeLink app. This doesn't have power consumption meter though, but does have a 433Mhz model built in and been be turned on / off from a *433Mhz remote. Helpful for someone old or immobile, or a light in a lapa or outsider security lights.

* We have noted that not all 433Mhz remotes work due to the shipset used. Sometimes you're lucky and you can get your existing to pair, but not a guarantee. We do sell the correct 433Mhz remote if needed.
 
I'm sure this has been answered here before, but I cannot find it:

Is Wi-Fi capability via Amazon AWS servers available in SA, or are these Sonoff devices currently limited to switching on 433Mhz only?

They definitely work through AWS servers. The servers are not in SA, but it does work within SA, from the app on your phone for example.

So I can install the e-Welink app on my phone, connect the Sonoff switch to my Wi-Fi network, and have access to the switch from anywhere, via my phone?

Only a few have the added 433Mhz module anyhow - but these are additional the normal Amazon cloud, which all have
 
Will I need any other hardware e.g. gateway or such to allow the Sonoff switch to interface with my MiFi router? I'm just trying to get my head around the process.

I think the first time you set up the Sonoff switch, you hold a button on it in when you turn it on (kinda like a reset button). Then it creates a temporary WIFI AP, which the app on your phone connect to, so that you can set up the details for it to connect to, in your case that would be the MiFi router details. The Sonoff then connects to your WIFI and your phone will then reconnect to the wifi too.

No you don't need additional hardware, all you need is to connect the sonoff switch to the WiFi using the app and you are set. The process is very easy.

I had the same questions that you have but it's very easy to setup these things.
 
BTW, is anybody else using the IFTTT integration with Sonoff?

I set up some rules last night, this morning IFTTT let me know that I have to reconfigure the service (my IFTTT account). Did it on my phone and all seemed well again.

Also set it up on my wife's IFTTT account but with my eWeLink account (to turn on the garage light when se arrives home) but it failed to work. It just gives an error like this:

The way I read the diagram if I were to use a Sonoff switch to open my garage/gate/alarm it would send 220v down the circuit?

Surely that isn't right?

What if I wanted to sacrifice and existing remote and wire the Sonoff into there instead of wiring directly to each device? Do-able?

There should be a low dc volt sonoff you can use instead of the 220v.
