Home Automation - Smartkit

Thanks for the update phaktza, as I said it was a bit of a learning curve with half of the documentation not completed/missing/not compatible between the versions 1.0 and 2.0, but once you found what was needed, it was pretty smooth sailing.
The HTTP and Exec bindings are extremely powerful and allows you to interface with with nearly any website or command line executable and allow your to return and parse the results.
You have the added feature of persistence to allow you to log certain activities.

Now that's awesome. I'd like to see the same for power consumption on the POW.

Good day all

I'd like to gauge interest in the products below:

Opensprinkler Powered printed circuit board
Active Crossover
Linear regulated power supply

The OpenSprinkler board has a connection for RF to talk to all things RF (garage receivers etc). Using a bit more grunt for a CPU like the Raspberry Pi does make the unit open for more tasks than just the OpenSprinkler software for example MQTT server etc.

We would like to package it as a development kit - perhaps without the Pi, but including the power supply.

Thoughts?

Thanks

The Opensprinkler board sounds promising. I would need to do a bit more research on it because at the moment, I'm a bit partial towards the Gertboard.

The Active crossover and Power supply are blank audio PCBs? Totally in a different category.

Thanks Patrick - yes, we're mostly concerned with the OpenSprinkler board. It comes in cheaper than the Gertboard, and it does do irrigation out the box ;-)

The other two boards were just to see if anyone was interested - the designer would like us to rather sell his products, but most specificially the OpenSprinkler PCB.

Thanks Mr Dolby...
AirTies done (replaced Ubiquiti).
Will fiddle with POWs over the weekend. Need to get cheap extension cables still. I also have an efergy home hub unit for whole house measurement but currently only monitoring the geyser.

That's awesome!

Thanks for the support!

The AirTies units are doing very well and offer awesome value.

They actually have a RRP is R4999 and Smartkit is the best priced on a normal day, let alone the CyberMonday deal!

How would you rate it compared to Ubiquiti? And what AP's did you replace?
I have mulled over this, but unsure how it compares to my AP Pro's. Very curious.

I bought some led spot lights to use outside. Intention is to use the basic swith, but now the lights is class 1 ~ require earth.

Can I just connect the N and L through the switch, and the earth ( around) the switch?

Other option is to find class 2 led lights, if it is available

I think that should be fine, provided you don't exceed the rating of 10Amps. The reason the POW requires the earth is due to the higher 16Amp rating. It's effectively a light switch, only needs to connect and disconnect the live.

In fact, you could bypass the neutral, as well - provided it's linked up the input on the Basic (to power the WiFi and not the light).

Thanks Dolby. The package arrived this afternoon. I'll be getting more stuff in the new year :) Thanks for keeping me informed on the order.

Righty O... had a brain fart this weekend and went off and bought a new pool pump and pool filter, and after taking everything to pieces it now seems that the pool electrics are also borderline shot and the timer is DEFINITELY shot.

Could I use one of the Sonoff devices as a Pool Timer as it were and set it to run on schedules?

I will be doing the Sonoff thing inside the house in the next few months more than likely but figured this might be a cost effective solution to a problem and at the same time help draw it into my future home automation setup.

I'm using the POW one on the pool pump. (0.75kw).

I was initially going to use the board posted above, but decided to give this a try for power consumption figures.

And its working as a decent timer as well?

I was definitely considering the POW one as well for the consumption readings.

Yup.

All the Sonoff gear can schedule, loop or countdown. You can also link to another Sonoff (ie when one goes on, so must the other ... So link to a patio light).

Noice!..

I think I need to brace myself for the expensive order I'm going to be placing with you guys in the new year... :D

Hehe.

If you actually want to test the app before you place the order, you can buy a relatively inexpensive Slampher. Zero install and the same features, so you can double check its the right solution / any issues.

Don't want you being upset ;)
