I agree with your way.
I have an automation that kicks off a script - give it time to execute (moving files) - then do another action. Duration won't make sense, its a Delay before executing the next step - which might have no connection to the first step.
Yes in that context it makes sense to me as well if what you are calling is another script.

That tells me the light will switch on 5 minutes after the Automation is started. Not that the light will switch on for 5 minutes and then turn off again.
In many cases I would still have an automation to turn stuff off specifically just in case it was manually over-ridden in between.
