Home Automation - Smartkit

I only use the TP-Link as a wifi access point -- I have a Mikrotik router as an actual router.

I have considered getting an Ubituiti AP or two for the house -- either that or a mesh network system.

I find them rock solid but like I said make sure you update the firmware. They often leave the factory too quicklt with shitty firmware.

Or install OpenWRT/DDWrt On it.

Ubiquiti basically is a mesh network but with a wired uplink between the AP’s instead of a wireless one which remains the better solution.

Does the same client handover and beam forming and other things that mesh does.
 
Has anyone gone the automated blinds route?

I’m looking at replacing the blinds in my media room with black out options and I’m baffled by the fact you can’t just buy an all-in-one blind with solution already built In.

Everything seems to be a third party option and way too over the top with remotes and crap I don’t need.

I am in the process of setting Home Assistant and was wondering if I will be able to integrate my Home Alarm ( IDS 816 ) ( ADT ) into Home assistant . I have some wireless and wired beams on the outside connect to the Alarm system.

I would appreciate some help & advice .

I have with DIY.

Bought automated blinds with remote.
Setup RFLink on an arduino, and setup.

I need an outdoor wireless temperature sensor to put on my roof - anyone have an idea?
 
I wonder if the Envisalink reports DSC alarm remote button keypresses (there's a 4th button on the DSC remote, for general use ...... )

Could use this as a remote lights on/off switch...

Because today the Dark Sky API couldn't be reached for a few hours so my pool heating didn't run.

Also - if I can more accurately get the temperature on the roof - I'd be able to run the system more efficiently than internet weather.
 
Another option is to build your own using an ESP8266 NodeMCU, DTH22 temp sensor and weatherproof enclosure. If you can power via mains that would be ideal, but if you have to power from a battery, the sketch would need to be written in a power efficient way where the device sleeps for, say 20 min, wales up, connects to wifi, pushes an update to HA using MQTT and goes back to sleep.

I’m busy writing the code for my tank level monitor to do just that as I don’t have mains power at my tanks. I plan to get a USB power bank to power this up.

I think it depends on the remote receiver. On my DSC, they used another receiver (another brand) that hooks into the bus. It only arm/disarm or panic on the alarm. The garage door button, has a relay on the receiver, that doesn't send any signal to the alarm. So in my case, no. In your case, depends on what it is and how it works.
 
I guess I could use an arduino on the outputs of the receiver to bridge to mqtt

Could you please walk me through how you set up this scene ie: door sensor =on and pir =off in ewelink?
 
Has anyone seen any integrations between Bixby (Samsung Voice) and Sonoff/EweLink/Tasmota?
Loving the idea of the Samsung smartwatch, but annoyingly google assistant doesn't work on the newer ones.
