Home Automation - Smartkit

Thanks - I actually finished this morning - not quite automatic, but from SQL, I read in the JSON schedules for the year, output to eight CSV files, which gets input into Google Calendar as individial calenders, these then get read from HA, depending on what stage it is, it references the relevant google calendar.

The google calendar process will take about 10 minutes to reload for a year if necessary.

How do you measure your whole house electricity?

How do you measure your whole house electricity?

Currently, with Efergy engage - I want to replace it with an Arduino setup, I've bought everything needed, just don't find the time. (not a fan of cloud based services)

What are you planning to use with the Arduino side to measure the current/voltage?

I'm currently looking for something to measure my 4kw geyser's energy consumption. Not keen on cloud stuff either. Most likely will look at the Shelly EM but don't have a direct way to procure them.

The prepaid meters have flashing LEDs indicating usage, I think ours is a 1000 flashed per kw, I'm just going to count them.

Hi xrapidx, The latest iteration of EM (3EM) will be available in South Africa end March/first week of April.

Official Shelly rep?

shelly.cloud,
shellyza.cloud will come on-line in the new week of which traffic will hopefully be redirected

Got home late last night and my pool pump still running. Sonoff POW R2 with eWeLink seemed to have missed the scheduled off earlier. First time this happens to me. Is it common?

I see the Shelly 1 is on takealot but what about the Shelly 2.5?

:D Shelly 2.5 (each channel contact currently rated 10 amp/2300 watt load capacity)

There are prospects of the contact being upgraded to 16amps.
We can add the existing 2.5 to the takealot store but would like to hold off.

Hold off why?

It's a more flexible option than the Shelly 1.

Please add it to Takealot.

I have an idea of a use of the sonoff basic unit with Tasmota firmware, but need some guidance from more experienced user/s.

Idea: use the sonoff basic with a buzzer to alert (for a short period, like 3-5 seconds) when the electricity comes back. The sonoff would be wired directly to the incoming 220V line to the house from the outside electricity meter, in the db.

Items needed: sonoff basic, 220V buzzer, some wiring

Problem: if I connect the buzzer to the incoming line of the house (with or without sonoff), it will buzz all the time - which is unwanted. The idea is to program the sonoff so that it only buzzes once (for 3-5 seconds as mentioned) when the electricity comes back, and then turn off. The next time the electricity goes off (and comes back on), the sonoff does the same. This way, you know when the electricity has just come back and can switch off your generator and switch back to mains.

Approach: program the sonoff basic to achieve the above. I did some reading (mostly on github and a few other places) and understood that the following command in the Console of sonoff basic should do the job (currently on Tasmota fw 6.7.1 IIRC):

rule on power1#boot do backlog power1 1;ruletimer1 50 endon

(a note that the PowerOnState was set to 0, meaning that the sonoff basic goes to OFF state initially when the electricity comes back on).

When I plug the sonoff in, the relay does not react. It does show up on the local network and can be controlled (either via the web, or manually using the button) but does not respond to the above command - nothing happens.

Any thoughts? This is the first time I am trying to use the rules on sonoff so I must be doing something wrong. Thanks for any suggestions!

my recommendation is to put the following into the console "PulseTime 30" (his enables inching) and change the power on state to be ON.

So when power comes on, it will switch the relay on, and then after the pulse time it switches the relay off.
Adjust the pulse time as you see fit.

Pulsetime itself doesn’t affect the relay turning on in any way.

The default is just that the relay turns on...which makes for interesting times when you hooked up your garage door to Tasmota and then get load shedding.

Power power state is controlled with...

PowerOnState Control relay state after powering up the device.
0 / OFF = keep relay(s) OFF after power up
1 / ON = turn relay(s) ON after power up
2 / TOGGLE = toggle relay(s) from last saved state
3 = switch relay(s) to their last saved state (default)
4 = turn relay(s) ON and disable further relay control
5 = after a PulseTime period turn relay(s) ON (acts as inverted PulseTime

Where can we get Shelly stuff locally?

Played with the 2.5 a bit yesterday and it’s quite slick and it’s got MQTT out the box.
Yeah the 2.5 is pretty much the one I want the most of.... If you get it added I will probably be looking to buy a few in the next few weeks.

Hi,

If you are satisfied with 2.5 current rated 10 amp/2300 watt load capacity for each channel contact, then super.

For Geysers rated 3500 watts, (Kwikot and Franke),
1PM (Power Metering) with a 16 amp contact has been designed for this configuration.
1 PM must not be installed at geyser in the ceiling, as with hot and sunny South African days, 1PM risks overheating.
1 PM's form factor is the size of an Oreo cookie and needs to be installed at DIN rail of Db board, adjacent to and connected to the Geyer's isolator switch.

Have no intention of using it for a Geyser...

I may use a 1PM for the geyser at some point in the future, but the 2.5 intended use case is automating light switches all over the house, and I like the fact that it has power monitoring built in.
