The waking up in summer is the exact reason I want them. Its far nicer to have the blind open slowly and let natural light in than to have a piercing alarm do the same thing.

Nothing locally unfortunately. You can get them very easily off of Banggood or Aliexpress though.
Being Tuya you dont even need to worry about flashing, there is a direct integration in HA already.

Any specific ones you trust? Thinking for rooms since curtains been ruined by cats. So need replacement.

so mine aren't the roller type, they are "Venetian" but in both cases you bypass the strings/cords and drive the shaft directly

Aaah that’s the same kind of blind I have.

Problem is they are bloody heavy and I can’t see any motor lifting that thing so I thought maybe a sensible target would simply be to manage the flip only.

But then I figure the rooms where I want this could do with brand new block out blinds instead which is why I’ve been checking those Ikea jobs for ages now but their sizes are also odd compared to mine.

I've come to realise that using the "sunrise" IFTTT routine turns off my lights too early now that it's Winter, even though I've got my city listed as CT. Seems I have to go back to using fixed times.

open one up and try drive the shaft with your finger, you will be suprised imo, plus you could gear it.

Asking as I considered HA but after looking at coding still sometimes required, decided to stick with Google Home for now

Yeah, I was just experimenting with some of the routines.

Next up will definitely be a light sensor combined with am occupancy sensor so that lights will only go on if there's someone in the room.

For my lounge door and the door leading from the garage, I'm going to be using magnetic sensors to create a scene as soon as the doors are opened and it's dark.

A cleaner operation would have been to use a magnetic door sensor on the garage doors, but the doors are metal so I'll have to experiment with that idea as I don't know how it will affect the magnetic operation.

Latest project ontec smart meter that is now updting values in HA every hr.

Next job is to create alerts for excessive water usage and water usage at night.

You can even add the tariffs to compare to what the muni is charging you.

This Meter has saved me a few times already with leaks.

Another project is adding a solenoid valve to the mains pipe that shuts off water at night since it's leaking around 50l during the night which adds up over time. And auto close if usage gets too high. Has any one done or thought of this. Doesn't seem too complicated, pi zero/node MCU with solenoid valve

Ouch @ fixed times...it changes all year round.

I was lucky stupid and bought a Xiaomi zigbee gateway, which funny enough have an illumination sensor. I turn lights off in the morning based on how much light it detects. Great on cloudy days because it turns the lights off much much later.

I had the same using IFTTT and eWeLink. I was notified a couple of weeks ago that the eWeLink /IFTTT hookup will become a subscription service, I think from July, so I loaded up Home Assistant. I now use the native weather app on Home Assistant and the automation allows you to specify an offset when linking switches/lights to sunrise/sunset.
