I have neutral but not enough live wires for my 3 gang light switch. It needs 4 live wires

Will see how to manage that.

2 gang needs 3 live wires

you have 1 hot (incoming live) and 3 outgoing switched live wires there in that first pic...

Assume yellow is neutral.

Then Brown is live in and of course 3 red out live.

its really hard to see from the angle, can you take a photo so we can see where all wires are going. also - when in doubt use a multimeter or other tester

the red that was stripped really long and going to all switches is almost certainly the incoming live, is that other red wrapped around it also?

i dont think you have neutral here...

honestly i have the cheapest one i could find, the tool is only as good as you can use it. as a general tinkerer imo i would just get whatever is available - other than that i can't recommend anything specific

I hate working with a multimeter and 220v - always scared I'm gonna shock myself. Also have a cheapie Major Tech one - it does the job.

I would hazard a guess as being the live out to whatever is being switched, but I honestly wouldn't take this as gospel, you need to confirm and trace. I would generally say that if you aren't sure you should get someone in who knows this sort of stuff.

Judging by the photo’s red is live in and the multicolored wires are live out.

Smart switch requires:

1 live in
3 lives out and
1 neutral

Thus thought

3 red live out
Brown live in and
Yellow neutral. DEF not earth as there is an earth in swtch.

Will check with multimeter.

Could be as en suite bathroom was also off.

So possibly no neutral

That sounds like the 2 wires on the long side are live in (or one is live in and one is tapping power live somewhere else), and the 3 on other side (yellow, red, brown) are switch legs.

Chances of there being any Neutrals in most homes are slim to none. I had a sparky spend the day and pull in neutrals to all my light switches (around 15 I think), cost me R185 per switch. He was here anyway as I had to get plugs rewired because the DB was split for Solar.
