Will be brewing your recipe sometime over the weekend if all goes well, but opted for 700g Crystal + 450g Brown Malt (all I have at hand :) )
.... and since my BIAB setup is not fully operational, I'll have to replace some of the Pale Malt(will be using Maris Otter) with DME for a "Partial Mash"

Your beer in the picture is quite dark ... are you sure the EBC was 43 ?
My EBC in Beersmith is sitting at 48 & still displays lighter in colour

PS: Thanks for sharing the recipe ;)

Awesome, let me know how it turns out.

Regarding colour, it is dark, but the picture probably makes it look darker (bad lighting, etc).

^ Cool.

It looks like the air setting on that burner is completely closed? ... any reason why?
and secondly, can those bricks withstand the heat from that burner? .... I still haven't build a stand to lift mine off the ground :(

Stupid question: is it better to have the air holes open or closed?

Nope not really, actually don‘t know the most effective "air way". But worked fine

Yip the bricks worked fine, the problem is concrete not so much bricks (according to my clever brother in law who is a structural engineering)

You basically want to adjust it, till you get a blue flame(more heat) ... yellow flames don't carry much heat & will just burn your pot black :)

This might explain it better >

Well, Here she is ... my SA Brown Ale
FG = 1016 & not 1010 as per Beersmith, so it tastes a little sweeter (Maybe I didn't oxygenate enough before adding the yeast)
Mine also looks a lot darker in the glass than what Beersmith displayed ?
I must say, those SA hops are a lot more fruity than what I thought ;) and the brown malt I used gave it a slight smokey flavour. :)
This is definitely a nice one to be had on a hot summer day :D

...having some now, although it's only been 11days in the bottle :whistling:

Eish it's so hot here in DBN and my wort is at 28 pitching the yeast. I have put it in the bathtub with a towel. I hope this brings it down.

Well so far the fermentation chiller and the stc-1000 is working like a dream. Steady between 17 and 18 degrees. But I might need to invest in something like a head ng belt or something, cause the reptile heating pad is just not producing enough heat

^ I have the medium size reptile pad attached to the step inside the freezer (the part without any cooling pipes) & it seems to work perfect .... I usually ferment @ ±19ºC

If you're at a steady 17-18, isn't that perfect ? ... how much warmer do you want to go, that you say the heating pad is not sufficient ?

You could opt for this > Fermentation-Heaterl

Actually I made a boo-boo, did not notice that the stupid probe got disconnected from the fermenter, so it was lying on the ice cold floor, and not picking up the temp inside the fermenter, so yes the heat pad is working

EDIT: oh but I do love that cascade smell when I open the freezer

Hey Comp, I saw you on your pics for your brew pot, you have a looking glass for the amount of water in the pot.... Did you install it yourself? If so, where did you buy the components
