Hi all HC users,

Has anybody noticed any DNS resolving issues via their Home-Connect link?

FNO: Frogfoot

Randomly throughout the day I get these DNS timeouts for max a couple minutes then it seems to work fine again. It's definitely related to the fibre link as I've tested over a full week routing my traffic via LTE backup and issue did not occur. Issue also occurs on multiple devices when it happens

Also, it's not consistent, some days I have no issues at all.

Logged ticket with ISP and they are as useless as ever.
Created a DM with Afrihost team to see if they could assist - Not much help

Considering moving to different ISP that's not under Afrihost network umbrella as it's a bit frustrating.

My setup is

FortiGate 60E (SD-WAN)> HC/FF Fibre
> Vox LTE Backup

This looks like a time out to the DNS IP. Did you run an extended MTR to 1.1.1.1 to see if there is loss?

Do you have a static IP setup with Home-Connect?

I have noticed some odd Packet loss on this hop - however I assumed its some sort of ICMP rate limit

No i do not have a static IP - CGNAT currently

Those drops are not a big issue. Have you tried a different DNS or router?

We would have seen lot of complaints if it was a general issue and the Home Connect NAT setup is running on very good very expensive fortinet kits which looks okay when I check the graphs now.

Yes, tried both google and CF as well as 2 different FortiGate's my side.

EDIT - also used axxess/afrihost DNS - 169.1.1.1

Please drop me a pm with your email and any info you might have regarding your FNO like line number. Let me nudge the HC team to setup a L2TP public IP for you to see if that makes any difference.

Nothing on my side, always use 1.1.1.1 rathe than peer DNS and have turned off the remote requests.
So have 1.1.1.1 handed out by DHCP Sever and all devices do direct DNS with 1.1.1.1

But I also have a static, reason staying with HC and not going direct with AF

@DStvNothingOn not sure if this is something you have experienced?
