Home network with wifi AP's setup reccomendations

Cool - 384m2 is not massive - 2 WAPS "should" do it but it depends on signal penetration (or lack thereof) which is why i suggested you start with loan unit first.

I'll be honest 3 won't be an issue for me and I can put them towards each corner of the house to have better coverage throughout.
 
Can these MESH systems (Tenda, AirTies, D-Link, ASUS, etc etc) have multiple SSID's to split IoT devices from the usual PC's, phones etc?

Yes they can - BUT and more info is needed on each one to fully understand it - not all of them assign VLAN tags to the SSIDs, so you might not be able to separate the devices from each other on the LAN. I know Airties doesn't VLAN tag so my IoT devices currently have full access to my LAN - which is not ideal - and the management software is rather bare bones.

I guess if their MIMO rates are okay then the backbone should handle IoT quite easily. Thanks for the reply!

Anyone else have experience with guest network creation, multiple SSID/Channels etc and using IoT devices and CCTV with the Mesh systems?

Oh and another thing to consider is most IoT devices prefer 2.4ghz channel over 5ghz, so if your mesh combines the channels into 1 SSID then it may not work that well. Most mesh systems allow you to have different 2.4 and 5ghz ssids so that can solve that one
 
I install alot of wifi systems. Best bet would be to run cable if you can for 2 powered AP. If you cannot run inside. Run the cables outside and just drill a whole to get inside to your AP. Tenda have good AP for good prices and they are pretty powerful.

When extending wirelessly you already loose alot of signal/quality. If you can always run cable and set it up as an AP.

Did you manage to get this setup, busy with renovations - will be done towards end of the year then would need to setup my network (i provisioned for cables the rooms and tv points etc.

@OCP what would i need for 120-180m2 downstairs and upstairs. 1 AP? or 2? 500m2 property and looking to fiddling with home automation etc so looking at unifi kit. Dream machine pro would be overkill but i just want one :) lol.

Hi @OCP - i would like to buy 1 AP so long. I have been testing 5G for about 2 weeks now and my current wifi seems to be a bottleneck (Asus AC52U 5GHZ) maxing out at about 200mbps (through ethernet i get about 400-450mbps). I would like to futureproof a bit for wifi speeds of up to 500mbps.

would the below be okay for range and speeds? and is the price okay? i see scoop has the below but is a bit more expensive.

I always p[refer to cable whatever devices I can (TV's / desktop computers / etc) and then leave the WiFi for true mobile devices.
As such I mainly use the LR AP's (Ubiquiti UniFi Dual Band AC Long Range AP | UAP-AC-LR) as they are cheap and provide excellent coverage.

If you need the fast bandwidth and for some devices and cabling is not an option - go for the either the Pro or the NanoHD 4x4 MU-MIMO AC Wave 2 depending on which band you need the most speed.

Yep - cabled my pc and media boxes/TV etc. the wireless is for the phones / laptops.. :thumbsup:

Not yet. Life got in the way somewhat. Plan is still the same though.
