Home Networking. Im Stuck

Could be a number of things.

Noise on the line, does your phone have a bad line?
Faulty or no filters on telephone/fax lines
Faulty cables in your house
Problem with the wiring between you and the exchange
Faulty DSLAM port.

If you do a search on the forum on attenuation then you will also see a few comments about people with the same problem as you.

BTW What does the downstream change to every time?

Damn, so finding the problem will be a bit tricky then...
The phone line seems fine, Im not running a pots filter, coz I cant get a synch then. Running from a double jack, which comes from downstairs
I'll see what my ISP has to say tomorrow morning, and then I'll set some time aside for phoning Telkom...

Thanks a lot for the help dude, much appreciated:D

You must not put the filter on the DSL line but on the telephone line.

Have you tried plugging in the router downstairs?
If you plug it in downstairs make sure that the router is the only one connected -- No phones and FAXES -- and then check the SNR again. If it hasn't changed phone Telscum...

Good Luck

also, when I use a long extension cable, I have ADSL dropping issues ....... so it could be that.

wo0t!!!! Its working:D

Thanks for the help guys!!
Now where to go with the synch issue? Still synching at just over 2000kbps

Hhhhmmm
Apparently my exchange cant handle 4096kbps. So Im stuck with sycnhing at half speeds until Telkom decide to do some upgrade
