@PoppieChoffel is southeast of Pretoria, maybe she can recommend a company other than ADT that is popular there

One of the best deterrents is security cameras. Criminals are more reluctant to break in if there are cameras always watching, no cameras means no recording of evidence, and less chance of prosecution.
Well I said one of the best deterrents, it shouldn't be the primary layer of defence obviously like a physical barrier lol. Then why is there so much footage of them breaking into places with security cameras? Security cameras do have their place for sure (I have 22), but are not a primary layer and definitely not a first layer of defence, unless an AI human detection camera system.
Works like a charm. But you can either go TP Link Tapo or EZVIZ (that c3x is really good). We have some in the yard and inside the house ie lounge etc.
I'm not a security expert but during the course of my work I often deal with victims of house robberies(or the family of the deceased victims).
This made me a bit paranoid about safety "while inside the house" , even though we stay in a rather safe area in the Western Cape.
If you get this right you will also be better secured when you are away.
Although I would prefer them breaking in while I'm not at home ( can always replace items and claim from insurance).
My setup ( far from perfect but works for me) :
At least I sleep better with all this in place.
- Spotlights around my house
- few wifi cameras outside - linked to phone
- electric fencing
- Roboguard sensors outside
- alarm system inside
- sleeping areas secured with burglar bars in front of the entire windows
- security gate in passage to keep sleeping areas separated from rest of house
- licensed radio, directly linked to security companies in my area
- some items to protect myself and family with
- belong to "emergence only" whatsapp group for our area.
- belong to Outsurance SOS service
- dogs - inside and out
No, I don't live in fear or feel like a caged dog at night .
I will rather over secure than having regrets later.
They can steal my stuff but not touch my family.
I have been using them for years without any issues. How is your experience with the roboguard outdoor beams? and is it linked to your alarm system?
Busy looking at them currently...
Thanks, do you have a link to the outdoor hikvision beams you planning on using. I was also thinking about installing a hikvision cctv system with the RG. Maybe I should look into what you are doing... Didnt know hikvision did alarms...I have been using them for years without any issues.
Very few false alarms over the years and I replaced the batteries once.
I really felt secured knowing they are activated.
Not linked to my alarm - but it can be done.
I'm currently moving over to Hikvision ( alarm + cameras ) and will eventually replace them with Hikvisions's version of RoboGuard ( not because I'm unhappy with RG - just need full integration of all my systems).
Any manuals or links to replace batteries?Alarm + CCTV is the way to go, but it can get expensive unfortunately. Then add ADT or other.
Currently our house has a DSC system with a big wireless extender and lots of outdoor and indoor wireless sensors. So far they're pretty reliable. Not sure if all need it but the previous owners also installed 2 DSC repeaters in various parts of the house.
I also bought OLARM but with the DSC its only useful for logs and disarming. Unfortunately when trying to arm in STAY it always defaults the panel to AWAY and the alarm goes off.
other than that it does what it's meant to.
We have an electric fence too and with a well established garden i have one word for it: PITA.

Yes, Hikvision has a fairly new system on the market called "AX Pro" - really good value for money. Thanks, do you have a link to the outdoor hikvision beams you planning on using. Do you just install the cameras and it works or did you need smart linkage? I cannot get the cameras to work with the ax pro.Yes, Hikvision has a fairly new system on the market called "AX Pro" - really good value for money.
I also installed Hikvision CCTV - they integrate well with the alarm system ( example - if alarm is triggered one can click on the "linked camera" in the notification and get a live view of the area)

Have a ring, live in a low crime area, never had a security system (literally grew up with front Door unlocked). Wifie wants something with cameras and sensors as she is reading the news...
My experience with alarm company's is not good. MIL got screwed for a year(charged for no serv), cust serv is usually crap, false alarms are rampant etc etc etc. so I really don't want to get a subscription or pro installed system. Not quite sure of the price point, but we want to be able to monitor remotely.
Advice for a first timer??
