Hi All,

I want to put in an alarm system,I want a modern wireless solution with an app.

I require 2 pirs,3 door sensors, 2 smoke detectors, siren, and a way to hookup to an armed response.

Im going to list what I was looking at but really need help here :

1.Yale Home Alarm - https://www.yaleshop.co.za/Smart-Home-Alarm-Kit (not sure if this can be connected to armed response.)

2.Sonoff Range - similar to above but way cheaper (not sure if this can be connected to armed response.)

3.Modern wireless Traditional alarms(Paradox) - Im in the dark about this, but I am put off by the price of a R2000 smoke detector.

Budget (4-6k)
Thank you

I can only answer with regards to number 3. I found Paradox wirelss components to be less effective than their wired stuff, and also more problematic. The reality is that you only wired up your house once with an alarm and so going wired is probably best. For hard to reach places, you can use the wireless components on the same system.

But wired just works.

Others would have to advise on whether the Yale and Sonoff stuff can connect to armed response but I doubt it.

You won't get a Paradox wireless system covering your needs for 6k or less.

There is a dedicated home alarm section on the forum with lots of info.

I have a Paradox system with wired and wireless components and a app on my phone. Outdoor wireless sensors can cost R2k on their own.

I would spend on a quality system that will work and be reliable. Your safeguarding yourself and your property on a daily basis so it needs to work.

If your looking a truly wireless option check out https://ajax.systems/

Not an expert in any way, but if you know what you want - I can help get pricing from a supplier in Ajax products. Drop me a PM if you'd want pricing on specific items.

Thanks.I cant find the dedicated home alarms section :( Ajax looks pricey.

We have a Paradox system but only one wireless sensor on a door, everything else is wired and I have integrated the alarm in to Home Assistant using the IP150 module.

I've recently redone my home alarm (previous owner had about 3 systems running parallel :wtf:). Anyway, I've got a full DSC system available if you're interested.

Good question, I'm in the market myself.
The best platform I can find in South Africa seems to be Ajax Systems (https://ajax.systems with a local office in Johannesburg)). They are far more expensive but seem to be an all inclusive platform (wireless, DIY, lots of options and devices, 3rd party integrations).

But are there any other wireless DIY security systems with durability and local support?

The lightning destroyed my previous alarm system and energizer last November. So, I had to replace everything and went for the Ajax alarm system. Yes, it is pricey and may not be within your budget, but it works flawlessly and for me it is absolutely worth the extra bucks.

Also have a look at the new Hikvision AX-Pro range - https://www.hikvision.com/africa/pr...ls&series=AX+PRO&checkedSubSeries=AX+PRO+Kits

This system integrates perfectly with my Hikvision camera system.

Loads of sensors that you can add.

Go wired. Wireless sounds good in theory, but in practice you're replacing batteries all the time.
It was a concern, but right now my existing outdoors cabling getting chowed by rodents.
These guys recon between 5 and 7 years off a set of batteries. If the batteries last 2 years or longer, I'm happy.

I've had a number of burglaries since early July. First 2 years of having my new place I had new issues. I reckon the same people keep coming back.

They keep breaking into the shed out at the back of my house... as well as petty theft off the stoep.

I haven't had anyone break into the main house.

I have an older IDS system installed, with sensors throughout the house. This is a wired only system.

I need motion protectors in the yard. I'd say at least two in the front and two in the back.

The first quote I received was a little confusing. They quoted me to install at ajax system with a couple of motion protects outside, and then set up hik-vision cameras outside. So this would leave me to then use the old IDS system inside. I don't see why I need ajax plus hik-vision. This was a rather pricey quote.

Then, the armed response company I signed up with have quoted to upgrade my existing system.

The propose putting in:

  • Paradox MG5050 TM70 Upgrade Kit
  • ATSUMI 90 DEGREE WIRELESS 433MHZ ADJ PIR (5 x motion detectors)
  • IDS 2 channel receiver (so i can use the same remote to control alarms at 2 houses)

This is all new to me. Any suggestions.

The ajax stuff looks good, but I don't see why I need the hik-vision cameras as well. And this setup would leave me having to use the existing old system for inside the house?

Rather go with the paradox and 90 degree motion detectors??

I'm going with the AJAX system ( hub 2+) will be getting the kit next week,

self install?

every time I ask a security company about the ajax system they tell me they don't like them.
starting to wonder if that has something to do with people being able to install themselves.

I do like the look of the ajax system, but I suppose I'd be starting from scratch if i went that route.

every room, and all main doors already have sensors in place.

my main objective here is to protect the outdoor perimeter

Of course they don't like them
They can't make money of you.
They are the best systems available and you don't need a paradox degree to install it or work it.
They are fantastic systems. I havr them installed in multiple locations

Go with Ajax. The system is incredible and you can program and set it up yourself.
