Hi all,

Went through some of the threads posted here, but still want to ask some advice. I want to set up a WIRELESS home security solution.

Any tips and keeping the budget low?

Thanks

Hey Anthraxitus, welcome to the forums :)

What kind of setup do you have in mind? Where all of the computers in your home connect wirelessly to a central router? In that case you'll need to enable encryption (WPA2) and, depending on your level of paranoia, MAC address filtering. Since you'll only need a router for this it doesn't cost much :)

Or do you mean Home Security as in alarm / closed circuit tv / similiar etc?

If you were asking about NAS Servers, I would have advised FreeNAS, but since you are not, I won't! :D

Yeah I also wasn't sure whether he meant wireless networking security for home usage or home security connected wirelessly  I assumed the former (my apologies if I was mistaken). ;)

Oh yes, if you want to use a NAS use FreeNAS :D

I take it you want a wireless (and possibly wired in certain areas) security system installed in your home. You can install the system yourself, but you wont get the same support from the supplier as a technician would. First make sure your insurance will cover any damage and loss to your property before doing this yourself.

Send me a PM if you want to contact some suppliers and/or technicians
