Hi All
The current setup I have is as follows:
32 Sinotec lcd
connected to Fantec Media recorder (stores series, movies, full DVD movie backups etc)
connected via hdmi cable for video
connected via composite stereo for audio to an LG HT303 home theatre setup.
My problem is that the Fantec media centre has optical and coaxial s/pdif out for 5.1 surround sound, but the home theatre doesn't have any of these audio inputs - receives the stereo signal and using dolby prologic 2 translates to 5.1.
The Fantec has a 1.5TB drive in with full DVD copies (8GB) on it, which i play through the tv., but would like to hear 5.1 properly, i can hear the difference.
What would make more sense to do:
1. Buy an AV reciever (Sony STR-DG910 for R3500), but then have to buy new subwoofer and maybe better speakers - current set is only 300w with passive subwoofer.
Most likely another R3000 for speaker set. Total R7500
2. Buy a Philips DVD home theatre from Makro for R2999 which includes 2x s/pdif inputs and comes with 1000W speaker tallboys, also upscales DVD's to 1080p etc.
the later on buy a blu -ray player if required.
My current lg ht303u is just a normal dvd player with component out to lcd tv.
3. Wait for a Blu-Ray home theatre system with 1000w speaker setup, they include s/pdif inputs and upscale dvd's to 1080p and futureproof with blu-ray and true hd, hd dts etc.
retail R8000 currently.
DVD's should be around for a long time to come, I usually do not buy DVD's and probally will not fork out for Blu Ray, mostly hire from DVD store.
How long do you think it'll take for blu ray to make it in the SA market?
Are the current blu-ray players any good?
