Homekit recommendations

Yup.

Just be mindful that’s an indoor camera.

I’ve had success with indoor cameras outside but not one that tilt and scan as I expect moisture would be an issue real quick in the motor mechanism.
It’s going indoors, no need for outdoors yet but considering how cheap this whole setup is I might expand.

Ah yes I recall reading that but couldn’t believe it was all included with iCloud. That’s the only “catch” but it’s only R15pm and that’s waaaay cheaper than the cheapest offsite video monitoring/recording subscriptions.
It’s actually a killer deal.

So if I’m reading it right with R15pm iCloud premium and any Homekit Camera you are set, full video surveillance with 10 days offsite recording and zone alerts?

So a camera like this and done?
I suugest you read this article:

If you're exploring smart devices and considering a smart security system, Aqara offers indoor cameras that serve as Zigbee hubs for motion and window sensors. Though pricier, these cameras support HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV), SD card storage, or their dedicated app. Additionally, they provide a few days of complimentary cloud storage. The models I'm referring to are the g3 or G2H Pro.

Would those Zigbee addons integrate directly with Apple Home and what is the advantage versus getting sensors that are natively compatible with HomeKit?

amazon prime has some very nice Eufy homekit cameras on special for BF...

i'm very tempted to send some to my forwarder...

The Aqara sensors establish a local connection through Zigbee, ensuring speed, and then become accessible on HomeKit. Their sensors operate reliably and are competitively priced.

iStore currently has Eufy on sale as well.

I am running many Aqara sensors / switches and Meross stuff in HomeKit all working lovely.

Adding cameras now.

Hmmm. Thats the same price i'm getting on Amazon Prime with BF. Not bad considering i would still need to pay shipping sand VAT if i get it from Amazon..

think i'm gonna get one.

PS - do you know if it likes Centurion D5's and Digidoor IIs?

It should work, I've got a Centurion T12 tip-up garage motor.

A garage door opener stands out as one of my top smart home investments. I particularly appreciate its integration with CarPlay, where a popup on the car's radio allows me to open the garage door. Additionally, it provides notifications in case I forget to close the door. Pairing it with a garage camera has proven invaluable for managing deliveries when away from home.

Whoa that is tech working for you, that is an amazing time saver!
If I could do that when couriers collect or deliver that would be epic

The Aqara camera includes a speaker for communication and can be accessed through the Home app. With it, you can open the garage door when the delivery person rings the Aqara doorbell, instruct them to leave the package in the garage, and close the garage once you see them depart.

You don't really get "natively" compatible HomeKit sensors as they all need to talk to a bridge etc before talking to HomeKit.

So basically as long as you have a bridge (the camera in this case) the devices will talk to that an then to HomeKit through the bridge.

This is mostly due to them all being battery powered and therefore not being able to use wireless protocol directly and also not having the hardware onboard to run the HomeKit tooling.

Most devices that are hard-wires will use wireless (or even ethernet) and interact directly with HomeKit.

As such Aqara is about the nicest and most reasonably priced I've seen.

Does anyone know of a smart device that works on old digidoor motors?

Not on their compatibility list

Very moon on it. Have a new unit that can do 3 doors with audible alarms etc
