HomePod mini

I wish under R1000 but probably R1599

So the HomePod mini is launching soon.

What do we think the prices will be?
$99 is the same as a Magic Mouse in the US, and that mouse costs R2199,00 here... I expect Core will adjust their tax 'tho, this being a "new" product and all, so I'm guessing closer to two and a half.

R2500 would still be a good price and not too far removed from what I pay when importing them.

R1999 would be magical.

Bigger question is does this mean we'll get Siri on the Apple TV soon? And more so Apple Fitness?

I think it's available now already, used it by chance the other day

I’ve had it on US all along but it was fairly useless but now it seems much more is working and I can say “Search for boobies on YouTube” or “Show Front Door Camera” and things actually happen.

Why the thing doesn’t have a built-in mic that listens for Hey Siri is truly beyond me.

It simply won’t play along on my HomePod Mini switching to SA Siri.

Apple TV is happy though.

Same.

Waiting on 16.2 which I understand will be out next week... I assume that's when we'll get the update.

I’ll be getting a couple HomePod minis - can’t wait for them to arrive here. I do have two Alexa’s - but keen to see how Apple is

But you need Apple compatible devices ?

So with Wyze cameras, zero benefit ?

I have Shelly devices that aren't HomeKit - but guessing this would still work, but not be integrated into the FW ?

I have my Wyze cameras forwarded in to HomeKit from Home Assistant.

But yea the specific camera in question is an Aqara HomeKit compatible one so support the secure iCloud recording etc which the Wyze doesn’t.

Gosh, I really do need to get this software going :/

They make outdoor ?

I'm busy checking Geewiz and I see two cams which look indoor

No they don’t officially.

But this one is under the eave of my roof and has been outside for two years without an issue.

Only thing I did was stick some insulation tape over the SD card slot.

Oh, nice. R1000 more than an Eco Dot, though... But, still tempting.
Pretty much where I thought they'd land.

As SauRoNZA said, it's in line with what they've cost when I've brought them in myself and better, in some cases a lot better, than local grey importer prices have been.

The 19th is Monday and that'll be a blue and yellow pod for me, thank you very much.

Also keen on that yellow one. I briefly toyed with the idea of getting two of them instead of a soundbar for a TV situated close to the bedrooms, but I think I am trying too hard to justify this purchase atm.

Yeah, there was another HomePod thread where soundbars came up too.

Have a soundbar on the teevee and I'm not using the pod now because one won't get me stereo sound... That said, one of the new ones will be to create a stereo pair in the living room, but even then I'll still be using the soundbar.

Bedrooms will have pods 'tho.

Just the way I prefer it.

Does anyone know how the compatibility of Matter IOT devices will work with HomeKit?

Apparently it’s got full support now so many more devices will be able to be used with HomeKit

It will mean you won't need to buy HomeKit specific devices. As long as they're Matter certified they'll work with Siri, the Home app and HomeKit as well as Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung and such.

I know Eve are rolling out Matter devices already but I'm not sure about other manufacturers.

Also not sure if existing devices can be upgraded to Matter certified via software updates... We'll see, but iOS16 has only been around since September so we're just at the beginning of the journey.
