'Homophobic' Ad Scrapped

The ad doesn't perpetuate that at all. It also isn't homophobic. I cannot think of a single person who has ever wished that their child turns out homosexual - not saying that there aren't some sickos out there, but I don't know any.

Yoh! Playtime has officially started.

I dont mind ads poking fun at gay stereo types. That polka ad, the current florist ad ... they irritate the living k@k out of me ... but ads poke fun at many things and many different kinds of people ... dont think gay people should be immune to it ... but this crossed a line. Imagine you are a 14 year old struggling with who he is and trying to figure out how he is going to tell his parents .... and then sees this ad. Basically saying tell your dad you are gay and you might as well put a bullet in his heart.

This ad does nothing to change the way that the dad will react. It is all about the heart, not the bullet.

That bullet could be:
a) Dad's princess is no longer a virgin;
b) Dad's bulletjie is now a Province supporter;
c) Medical parole has been turned down for Shabby Shaik. etc etc

Methinks some folk got a rush of over PC to the brain.

So, according to some, making fun of stereotypes is not allowed... because it is homophobic.

If you don't want to make cake for a ceremony because it violates your principles, you are labelled as homophobic and should be taken to court, fined and then go out of business.

If you don't want take photos of a ceremony because it violates your principles, you are labelled as homophobic and should be taken to court and fined.

If it is against your principle to consider same-sex parents for adoption, rather close down and forget about providing adoption services for anyone.

If you don't accept a certain view of marriage or think sodomy is disgusting or unnatural or irrational (like bestiality, necrophilia and whatever other sexual deviation), then you are automatically slandered and labelled a bigot.

Phew, why are so many of the LGBT society acting like intolerant leftist fascists?

Do you actually read what you post ?
You dare to use the words "intolerant" & "fascist" in the same sentence while criticizing a group of people, when you yourself come across as one of those judgmental & hypocritical pseudo-christian types that are reviled by all !

Well that news would give some people a heart attack and disown their kids.

My younger brother came out of the closet earlier this year and that ad summed it all up. Tempted to post it to Facebook especially for my mom to see.

She is one of those bleeding heart liberals but let any of her kids be involved with blacks, asians, gays, lesbians, ewoks then its a different story.

If a majority of people have an issue with your principles, perhaps you should reconsider those principles.

But you won't, because your principles come from a book written thousands of years ago by a patriarchy with an agenda, in a time when the world was completely different to what it is today. Human beings have evolved and so has our world. You have not. You are an evolutionary dead end.

Yeah, and also if your principles are bigoted then you are a bigot.

Yip fully agree.

Knowing what it is like to struggle all your life with your sexuality this ad should never have been made, let alone aired.

All your examples have one thing in common; discrimination.

Is discrimination ok?

Nah people make fun of stereotypes all the time. Some are fine as they don't really cause any harm but some deal with some very vulnerable parties and then it is a problem. Maybe not homophobic, but insensitive and potentially damaging.

Agreed. You should.

Or just stop being a discriminatory bigot. That is an option too.

Yeah! How dare they be unhappy about people's intolerance and discrimination against them for something that in no way harms anyone!!

Those inconsiderate whiny lefties!!!

Absolutely ridiculous Phrones.

I also don't know anyone who is ambivalent enough to say that they don't care if their child turns out to be homosexual
You know some real a-holes then. :erm:

If your child turns out gay that is him/her being true to himself/herself. It doesn't harm anyone. It isn't like your child became a murderer or something destructive. So get over the prejudice and respect the fscking decision instead of freaking out as though it is something bad.

So come the day of the "outing" - it may well be a shock.
Maybe for old fogies.

If my son ever came out with a different sexual orientation, I'd still love him and be happy for him, and try to create an atmosphere in my home where he should never be afraid of approaching me with something so serious.

The only reason I would care would be because they are going to be victims of bigots and homophobes.

Nice one linking being gay to bestiality and necrophilia.

Well said.

Nothing but class from old Phrony

It isn't about whether the reaction is acceptable or not. Nobody has ever though "I'll have a heart attack because it's acceptable."

The ad doesn't perpetuate that at all. It also isn't homophobic. I cannot think of a single person who has ever wished that their child turns out homosexual - not saying that there aren't some sickos out there, but I don't know any. I also don't know anyone who is ambivalent enough to say that they don't care if their child turns out to be homosexual but here I am quite sure that there are a lot more people who just don't care about their children than there are people who hope they turn out to be homosexual. I don't hang with those sorts.

So come the day of the "outing" - it may well be a shock.

You completely missed the point of Lycanthrope's post. Yes, for a lot of people hearing their son is gay comes as a shock. But it shouldn't, and we need to demolish the idea that such a reaction is necessary. Homosexuality is normal. Hearing that your child is homosexual should elicit the same reaction as hearing that your child prefers blondes over brunettes.

Nice one linking being gay to bestiality and necrophilia.

Old tactic on mybb though. He left out Pedophilia though ... that has also been used before on mybb. Basically ... if gay people are allowed to shag people of the same sex ... then why cant men diddle little kiddies. Honestly *sigh*

Actually I don't - but I've met a few people who fail at comprehension. So I'll write this slowly:

People that I mix with do care about their children. How the child turns out is going to be how the child turns out. It isn't the end of the world if they are smart or not, straight or not. But they do care. Caring is not the same as being devastated. Caring is about being interested in your child and his or her wellbeing.

Simply put - I care if my child is straight. I care if my child if homosexual. And the people I mix with care about their children too.
