Honda Brand

We have had three Jazz's, a Ballade, a Civic and a CRV in our household and we have never had one breakdown.

The brand is very reliable in my opinion. I can't comment on parts as I never had to replace anything.

My dad just had to replace his starter in his 2015 Ballade. R5700. What is happening to the legendary Honda reliability?

Still very reliable. Only issue on my 2015 Ballade is noise from cosmetics panels, a common problem but nothing that some dash spray can't fix - actually found out this is why you use dash spray as it is just a general problem with all cars.

Was looking into getting the extended warranty and Honda actually determined it to be possible future claim cost. So I decided not to spend the R4K as at least I'm not locked into their services.

Example, my (overdue) 75'000km service at Honda would be R2500 vs R1300 from Autoworks.

I agree, my friend had to replace CV joints on the Jazz for the first time at over 200 000km's. That's just when the reality of the expensive Honda parts hit him hard.

Yeah they are still reliable. But in all surveys they have been dropping spots to other brands. Their quality is definitely slipping a bit.

When looking at 2017 Kinsey report, the Jazz is not much more expensive except for body panels which are covered by car insurance.

Actually the two most expensive parts, front pads and spark plugs, could be sourced from quality brand suppliers. What happened to our Atos was that the brake pads where very expensive the first couple of years as we could only get from Hyundai dealership, then Feroda started making them for a fraction of the cost. This is true for many makes and models.

Do agree.

The Ballade for example is actually a cheap car rebranded under a better quality model. Rest of the world knows it as the Honda City. I had the same issue with my i10, I found it was not the same build quality as our Atos. But the i10 never gave me a single issue and the Ballade mechanically is 100% fine.

Honda to cut model complexity as quality crisis hits profits

At a two-day gathering for Honda's suppliers in March, Chief Executive Takahiro Hachigo sounded the alarm.

At the Hotel Higashinihon in Utsunomiya, Hachigo told them the Japanese carmaker was facing a crisis after a string of costly recalls and other quality blunders and it needed to plot a new course, according to two people who attended the meeting.

Since then, Hachigo has been quietly working on reforms to centralise decision-making by bringing Honda's standalone research & development (R&D) division in-house and cutting some senior management roles, according to three Honda insiders.

Expected to be announced early next year, the reforms are meant to simplify the way Honda designs cars and put its engineering resources to more effective use at a time when it needs to develop cars for an electric age, the sources said.
