Honda Brand

Everything at Honda is overpriced even the so called affordable Brio is overpriced. My colleague excluding insurance he is paying R3800.
 
Yep (even as a huge Honda fanboy) I have to admit that their vehicles have become ridiculously overpriced. And the rear-end designer needs to have a chat with the front-end designer, because they certainly have different ideas.
 
Its sad. I am a huge Honda fan. When I bought my first new car everyone said look at Hyundai or Kia, good value there. When I compared the Balade to the Accent for the same power level the accent was more expensive but had a lot less features. Balade won hands down 3 years ago. Right after that though I saw the prices of Honda going upwards. Really not cool.

I also noted the dramatic drop in the reliability studies. Honda used to be amazing at reliability. Now, I am not so sure. Everything still seems good with my car but I am no longer sure about getting another after this one, not if they are going to gouge us in pricing like that.

That right there is also a problem with the new car market in general. I see no point in buying a new car when there are plenty of reliable cars available in the 2nd hand market.

If I had to choose between a new Brio @ R3800p/m or an 8 year old Civic for R1000 less, I'd pick the Civic every day of the week and twice on Sundays (and I have done exactly that).

But that of course is just my personal opinion regarding new vs used vehicles.

If the brand doesn't have assembly operations locally, then their part prices are ridiculous, their vehicle prices expensive.
I haven't owned a Honda in the last 10 years but I had a Civic b16 VTEC and a h22 VTEC prelude, parts had to be imported and cost 3 legs a piece.
 
About year ago I needed a rather ordinary part for my Civic. Honda had no parts available, and could only promise to have a part in 6 weeks from Japan. In the meantime I couldn't use my car, which means I couldn't do my job (sales). Got no sympathy from two Honda dealerships, and email I sent to Honda SA customer care was ignored. Got an after market part within a day. Luckily car was out of warranty, otherwise the after market part would probably influence that?

I used to be very brand loyal, but after seeing how little Honda SA cares, I'm staying well clear of the brand. Maybe it's standard industry practise to expect your customers to be stranded for weeks because you can't keep a spare part or 2 in stock or offer to put one on a plane, but I at least expect you to apologise for the inconvenience. My car was reliable up to that point, but the first time I needed service support, Honda was not.

A friend who has a Jazz and a CRV has the same issue, Honda parts are not everywhere, only Honda and a few selected spares shops. Seems like Honda knows this and their prices are going through the roof.

He was recently looking for CV joints for his Jazz, Honda does not sell CV joints but the whole drive shaft assembly, he was quoted more than R5000 for parts and Labour.
 
The Honda dealer network is relatively tiny, is it owned/managed by Honda Japan or local company like Barlow World or Imperial?

Their prices are not cheap and it doesn't make sense in such a competitive marketplace for them to be around 10% more expensive only in the Sa market, that's hobbling themselves, limiting spares sales and less cars on the road limits the product exposure.

All things being equal and imported why is Honda so much higher more expensive?

Honda Rivonia - Mekor

But who has the main distribution rights in Sa?
 
I love my little brio my first car but lately I have been thinking of trading it in for Kia Picanto or Toyota Aygo. I left Honda dealer last week, Monday with my tail between my legs after they told me a mirror for brio cost R3460 and still it to take it to panel beater to paint it.

So reading some of the comments make me thinking I'm doing the, right thing buy trading the car while still early. Oh forgot to mention brake pads for Honda brio cost R1650. While my friend paid R980 for her brake pads at ford for her figo.

Because mojos love the liquid lunches, arse licking launches, overseas trips and the other indulgences that have happy endings when OEMs pick up the tab.

Reliability is not much of an issue, you will still get isolated incidentS such as yours but generally the complaints are more about the expensive and scarce parts.
