The Japanese brand is keen to defend its position in the compact crossover market and this redesigned HR-V should give a good account of itself, in that role.
What powertrains are available for the new Honda HR-V in South Africa?
In South Africa, the new Honda HR-V Comfort and HR-V Elegance will be powered by an 89 kW 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, the same that powers the Honda Fit. This engine is paired to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that will direct power to the front wheels.
In other markets, a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive hybrid HR-V is available for the first time and delivers 96 kW and 253 Nm, with the non-hybridized 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle engine offering 87 kW, but significantly weaker on torque, at only 142 Nm (outputs vary depending on the market). While the HR-V hybrid won’t be offered at launch, it can’t be ruled out for introduction in the future and Honda may see this as an opportunity to capitalise on the growth that hybrid models have seen in this segment since the introduction of the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, which is selling strongly in South Africa.

How much will the new Honda HR-V cost in South Africa?
Honda South Africa has yet to confirm exact pricing and specification details for the new HR-V but a source within Honda’s local dealership network has confirmed indicative pricing for the new HR-V and final pricing will be confirmed at launch.

The current 1.8l costs over R500k, I don't know why they even bother, Honda is dying in SA and unless something drastic is done the Chinese are going to squeeze the life out of them in the next couple of years.

Summary
The premium compact crossover segment is a tiny pocket of the market and not one that sells up a storm every month. However, the HR-V does make sense for those looking for something with a distinctive design and adequate practicality.
The increased ground clearance will instil a bit more confidence when you’re travelling on gravel roads and the Honda’s ride quality and on-road refinement (especially the hushed cabin) are among the best in the segment.
The engine is lacklustre, but if you’re happy to do things at a modest pace and don’t intend to load the coupe-SUV heavily on regular occasions, it will suffice and provide excellent fuel savings. We just wish a hybrid version was available.
What’s more, the interior is well built and finished with appreciably premium materials. The infotainment system fulfils modern connectivity requirements, even if it’s unlikely to wow many users.
The HR-V appears to be a nonconformist choice, but only because the traditionally-shaped SUVs will still garner more sales, which will make the new HR-V stand out more in a crowd.

Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, white ambient interior lighting, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with four speakers, reverse camera with parking sensors, automatic climate control with rear ventilation, front and side airbags, Hill Descent Control and Vehicle Stability Assist.
Over and above all that, the Executive spec grade, among other things, adds 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats with 8-way power adjustment for the driver, eight speakers, wireless phone charging pad, auto wipers and an electrically operated tailgate.
The range-topping model also gains a full suite of Honda Sense driver assist features, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Following, Lane Keep Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation and Collision Mitigation Braking System.

Not quite, but it is a good mix of distinctive premium styling and a safe, overall comfortable drive at a relatively competitive price. - My boot 'cover' has been misplaced. I say by Honda, they say No. But anyway, where can I buy a replacement?
- I feel my car is a bit heavy on fuel. Yes it is 90% town driving, but it is at around 9l per 100km. Any suggestions on improving this?

Buy a new car. If your Honda is using that much fuel, it's poked. Probably the CAT is blocked, or it hasnt had a major service in a long time.

The 2023 HR-V looks a lot better, and it gets a 2.0L engine. Why must South Africa settle for the older model and a 1.5L engine?
